The absence of Gary Glitter goes without saying, but his backup band makes the cut.

A very inclusive definition of glam. Jacques Brel? Patti Smith? Judas Priest? Boney M? I can see Little Richard being an early influence, but Chuck Berry is indeed puzzling. Nice job of picking post-70s acts though.

I want one.

Brel is also probably because Bowie covered the song. Judas Priest may have fit their definition because Halford is gay?

Now the exclusion of David Werner's Whizz Kid album SUCKS!! And no Alice Cooper (the band)?

Is that Rock Follies song from the TV series, starring Rula Lenska?

And if you've got Dead Or Alive and Sigue Sigue Sputnik, what about Doctor and the Medics?

Does Gene Love Jezebel "Motion Of Love" fit the bill for glam?

The shadow of David Bowie hangs heavy over this set. Still, looks like the compilers could only get access to pre-1969 David Bowie stuff, so that's probably the 1967/8 outtake of "London Bye Ta Ta" released a few years ago, not the more rocking 1970 outtake.

To make up for the lack of Bowie, they've worked in some Bowie-related stuff, some of which obviously belongs here (Mott's "All the Young Dudes", Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side"), some of which is lesser known but still pretty great (Lulu doing "The Man Who Sold the World", Dana Gillespie's rocking "Andy Warhol", both written/produced/arranged/performed by Bowie et al), and some of which really doesn't deserve to be here (the so-so "Growing Up and I'm Fine", a throwaway given to Mick Ronson -- forgettable if not written by Bowie).

Since the Spiders covered "Round and Round" for a (fantastic) b-side, that may be why that particularly Chuck Berry track made the list. (And of course, it will also covered by the Rolling Stones, the Animals, etc. -- other good reasons).

The Bowie influence extends even into the "modern" disc, as "Glamorous Glue" was produced by Mick Ronson. A great track, but I bet they would have rather used, say, "I Feel Fine" from BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE...

I've never heard DG's studio Warhol, but I LOVE the live version on the BBC boots.

Once again, Amazon.co.uk is the way to go. Just ordered it for under $50.
