The Boomtown Rats will release a new hits collection on the 9th of September 2013. Entitled ‘Back To Boomtown : Classic Rats’ Hits’ it will feature all of the band’s celebrated hits including ‘Lookin After No 1’, ‘Like Clockwork’, ‘She’s So Modern’, ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ and ‘Rat Trap’ – songs with an immediacy and a message that is as pertinent today as it was when they were written - plus two new songs recorded by the newly re-formed Rats. Some 27 years since their final show in Dublin in May ’86, The Boomtown Rats – Bob Geldof on vocals, Pete Briquette on bass, Simon Crowe on drums and Garry Roberts on guitar - will tour the UK in the autumn and release a new album.

Of course, the 2 extra songs would make this a better, more detailed comp and they are download only-stupid!

But, the 2 new songs are what is shocking to me and that they are doing a new album. Very exciting news!

Why don't any of these compilations have "Up All Night"? Was it a US-only single?

It was (also on the US version of the Mondo Bongo album) although I think it later appeared in the UK. MTV played that hilarious bad video to death (love Geldof looking coked out of his mind in bed with the snake). The Greatest Hits album from 2004 is a fantastic and very detailed comp although it too lacks "Up All Night".

I will get this one thanks to the new songs. But "House On Fire" and "Drag Me Down" should be on the CD too. And where's "Dave"? Such a great song (called "Rain" in the US and on the last comp).

Their back catalog is such a mess: one key album out of print, the others with changed track orders and mediocre sound. Maybe the new album will trigger a really nice reissue program. I'm a fan of their later, less punk albums.

I have all the remasters and they were too damn loud but had loads of cool bonus cuts. What is out of print? I like all their stuff but the last few albums were not very good although each had some gems on there.

For some strange reason V Deep is out of print. And it's one of their best albums IMO.

Mondo Bongo (my favorite of their albums) has a revamped track order and muddy sound.
