From the left -- 2-CD Standard Edition, 4-CD Deluxe Edition, 3-LP/2-CD Vinyl Edition, "Wigwam" RSD Vinyl 45:
A blurb for Record Store 2013 contained the following info about a Zimmy 7" single scheduled for the event:
Quote:
Bob Dylan Wigwam b/w Thirsty Boots from the forthcoming Bootleg Series Volume 10, features the demo version of Wigwam and the unreleased track from the Self Portrait sessions) http://new-vinyl.blogspot.no/2013/01/re ... -2013.html
This fits in with reports that Vol. 10 will center on 1969-70 studio material, and Vol. 11 on 1974 "Blood On The Tracks" stuff.
Here's another article discussing the upcoming single and summarizing the rumors:
Bob Dylan is reportedly releasing a 7” single as part of Record Store Day 2013, according to an online round up of this year’s planned releases.
The 7” will comprise versions of “Wigwam” b/w “Thirsty Boots”, which may be taken from the forthcoming Bootleg Series Volume 10.
“Wigwam” was recorded in early 1970 for the Self Portrait album, and later released as single. The Record Store Day version is reportedly a demo. Meanwhile, “Thirsty Boots” is a Civil Rights era folk song written by Dylan’s Greenwich Village contemporary, Eric Andersen. Dylan recorded the song as part of the Self Portrait sessions, though his version has never been officially released.
In October last year, the Dylan fan site Isis reported rumours that recording sessions from 1969/1970, in particular the Self Portrait sessions, were being considered for Volume 10 - which this Record Store Day release appears to corroborate.
The Dylan camp has history of using Record Store Day to release prospective material from the Bootleg Series. Last November, Dylan released “Duquesne Whistle” from The Tempest album as a Record Store Day single, backed with an unreleased version of the Blood On The Tracks song, “Meet Me In The Morning”. “Meet Me In The Morning” was initially flagged up as being “taken from the forthcoming Bootleg Series Volume 11”, leading to speculation that the set might be drawn from Blood On The Tracks sessions. However, Record Store Day removed reference to the Bootleg Series shortly after.
The most recent edition of the Bootleg Series – Volume 9, The Whitmark Demos: 1962 – 1964 – was released in October 2010.
Record Store Day will publish a full list of this year's releases on March 21.

Ican't put my hands on Heylin's Dylan Session guide right now, but if Vol. 10 is done right, wouldn't it end up containing the material on Columbia's FU for leaving the label collection Dylan?

It depends upon how broadly the label chooses to look at the 1969-70 studio material. Most of the stuff that wound up on the 1973 "Dylan" album was recorded during the "New Morning" sessions, which took place in June, 1970, right about the time "Self Portrait" was released. However, "A Fool Such As I" and the version of "Spanish Is The Loving Tongue" that wound up on "Dylan" were both 1969 "Self Portrait" outtakes.

Amazon just threw up a bunch of links for this. The one inclusion that has me scratching my head is the 1969 Isle of Wight Show on the super deluxe version--the handful of tracks from that show on the original "Self Portrait" didn't impress me, and I don't think it's ever been held in particularly high regard by those who've heard it. I suppose I'll be able to judge for myself in a few more weeks. Still, I'm anticipating this "Bootleg" entry quite a bit--the "Witmark Demos" were something of a placeholder title, and if the rumors are true, Vol. 11 will cover the "Blood On The Tracks" material.
No tracklisting yet, but unreleased material from the 1970 session with George Harrison is promised.
Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Volume 10 comes from the 1969 1971 recording sessions that ultimately produced the Self Portrait and New Morning albums. All 35 tracks are previously unreleased, alternate takes, demos or live versions of that material. The versions of the songs on this package are radically different from the officially released versions. The cover is new artwork by Bob Dylan. The liner notes have been written by Greil Marcus, who wrote the original Self Portrait review for Rolling Stone that infamously asked, "What is this sh**?." Also included is an extensive essay from well known journalist, Michael Simmons. The set also has extensive photographs of that era from John Cohen and Al Clayton many of them rare and unseen - as well as pictures of the original tape boxes and cue sheets.
The Standard Version contains 35 tracks on 2 CD's, and soft cover perfect bound booklet The Deluxe Version contains 4 CD's and two hardcover books housed in a hardcover slip case Book # 1 contains 4 CD's and liner notes Book # 2 contains the photos from John Cohen and Al Clayton. The 2 bonus CD's will contain the newly remastered version of Self Portrait and the complete 17 song recording of Dylan & The Band performing live at the Isle Of Wight in 1969 The vinyl version contains 35 tracks on 3 LPs (and 2 CDs) plus a 12" x 12" booklet that includes the liner notes written by Greil Marcus, the essay from Michael Simmons, and the photographs from John Cohen and Al Clayton, and pictures of the original tape boxes and cue sheets.
While the official Sony press release is expected to be released at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, information was posted today on Amazon and You Tube concerning Bob Dylan’s “Another Self Portrait (1969-1971): The Bootleg Series Vol. 10.” There will be different versions, including a 2 CD or 3 LP set with 35 tracks, or a deluxe version with two additional CDs with a remastered version of the original album, and the complete 1969 Isle Of Wight concert with The Band, in addition to two hardcover books. The scheduled release date for all formats is August 27.

The promotional video, embedded above, includes interviews with Al Kooper and David Bromberg, who both played on the sessions. It is interesting to note the recordings range from 1969 to 1971, including material recorded with George Harrison (probably on May 1, 1970).
In the clip, excerpts of songs can be heard, including “Went To See The Gypsy,” “Pretty Saro,” and “Tell Old Bill” on acoustic guitar (and occasional harmonica ), a full band version of “Time Passes Slowly,” a slowed down version of “If Not For You” on piano with a violin backing, and a solo (demo?) version of “When I Paint My Masterpiece” on piano.

Here it is...a couple of of these tracks may have been released as downloads--I'd have to double-check, but possibly the "Went To See The Gypsy" demo and the alternate "I Threw It All Away". There also seems to have been a concerted effort to avoid the songs that appeared on the 1973 "Dylan" album.
Reports indicate that the fourth disc in the super-deluxe version will be a remastered version of the original "Self-Portrait" album.

The iTunes version appears to consist of the 2CD version of the outakes and the live set with The Band. It leaves out the remastered version of Self-Portrait. Pre-order price is $27.99. Wish they would release a similar 3cd package at a similar price point.

I agree. I'll wait to see how much the box costs before deciding, but if the physical copy is expensive I won't hesitate to pull the switch on a download for just $27.99.

$27.99 for air? (...and piss poor sounding air at that!) Don't do it! Lossless or nothing! Don't get sucked in!

I'm 50 years old and my ears are shot. I'm content to listen to great music in any form. In fact, my iPhone playing through my Jambox sounds better than the shit stereos I had growing up. My first choice is always physical media, but if my choice is between sweet sounding air and nothing, I'll always take the air.
Plus, I can buy the air now and wait for the price of the box to drop to $20 next year.

I've learned to not bother pretending that there's any official Dylan that I'd pass up. I'm hard-pressed to call Dylan my single favorite artist, yet to me his material only tends to sound better and better on repeated listens. He's also the one artist that can release a slew of album outtakes that are as consistently good as the material that ultimately made the album in question. (I know, in this instance the hurdle is lower than usual, but even "Self-Portrait" has grown on me over the years.)
I saw Dylan a couple of weeks ago. (Well, I didn't really "see" him--I was back in row xx and the stage was kept very dark, but I certainly heard him.) His set was amazing--what other artist can do songs stretching from 1962 ("A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall") to 2012 ("Early Roman Kings") with stops in the 1970's ("Tangled Up In Blue") the 80's ("Blind Willie McTell") the 90's ("Love Sick") and the 'aughts ("Beyond Here Lies Nothin')?
He's an acquired taste, but there's not a lot of music left that I listened to twenty years ago and am not relatively sick of hearing today.

A friend of mine once claimed that the Isle of Wight recording of "Quinn the Eskimo" was his favorite recording.
I'm actually more interested in the Isle of Wight disc and the remaster than the actual "Another Self Portrait." But $140. "What is this shit," indeed.

I realize these things change as frequently as the price of pork belly futures, but right now the 2-CD set is $21.92 on Amazon, but only $19.98 from dylan.com. More strikingly, the 4-CD set is $139.87 on Amazon, but only $99.98 on dylan.com.

Is this unusual?
I don't know if it's unusual, but BobDylan.com lets you pay with your PayPal or Amazon accounts! I'm wondering if I should cancel my Amazon order and buy from Bob.
