The Second Disc posted about this a few weeks back; I figured I'd post it here while the pre-order offer was still on the table. It presents something of a streamlined version of the OOP 9-disc "And It's Deep, Too" boxed set as well as 2005's "Evolution/Revolution," and Shout! Factory claims the set includes a bunch of previously unreleased stuff as well. As for the two DVD's--they are set to contain Pryor's three stand-up films.
The official blurb:
Quote:
With seven CDs and two DVDs that deliver over 12 hours of prime Richard Pryor hilarity – both familiar and rare – spanning from 1966 to 1992, this essential collection features the best recordings from his early years as a still-developing stand-up, his ’70s-early ’80s glory years as a profane-but-profound comic icon, and one of his final onstage performances in 1992. The deluxe book contains rare photos, multiple essays, exclusive celebrity tributes, a discography, a filmography, and a personal note penned by Richard's widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor. This is the most comprehensive collection ever devoted to the greatest comedian who ever lived.
Here's the kicker--anybody who pre-orders this through the Shout! Factory website at
http://www.shoutfactory.com/?q=node/217256 will get a 10th disc containing a previously unreleased 1973 performance, and will also receive the set four weeks ahead of time--shipping on May 14th instead of June 11th.
For those hose willing to wait an extra month, forgo the bonus disc, and save some $$$:

I have a 1,500 mile drive later this month--the timing on this is perfect!
