I'm sure there are valid reasons for re-releasing this, but I would much rather see them push on with the overall catalog remastering project. It's time for deluxe editions of Low & "Heroes". Heck, I'll even sequence them if that's what David wants. Incorporate the live version of Low he performed back in 2003 (I think) into the deluxe Low remaster for starters. I won't even ask for the instrumental tracks recorded for The Man Who Fell To Earth...yet.

It's past time for an official 1980 Floor Show. If needed, let Trevor Bolder re-record the out of tune bass parts. That's the ONLY reason i can see why it hasn't been released. As Tony DeFries released a remix of Time from that show, I ASSUME there are multi tracks.

And on a different Bowie tangent, Ain't It Cool News reported today that a movie is planned about Bowie and Iggy's time in Berlin. Personally this is my favorite Bowie period and I can't wait to see what they make of it. For casting, I recommend they just go ahead and hire Jonathan Rhys-Myers and Ewan McGregor to reprise their roles from Velvet Goldmine; only this time they can use the actual names of the characters they are playing.

Love the movie, especially McGregor's performance.

Just did a quicky a-b 30th vs 40th.
This one is not nearly as much a slam dunk as the Ziggy was. It's actually more compressed then the 30th 2 disc: DR9 (40th) DR11 (30th).
I prefer some of the tonal choices on the 40th, but it is pretty compressed.
My suggestion: If you own the Ryko or don't own AS buy it. If you already own the 30th, purchase would depend on your sonic preferences & finances.
It's really hard to describe what I heard. Again, I could see some people preferring the 30th, & some preferring this one. I no longer have an original RCA CD or EMI CD around for comparison.
I never bought the Ryko as it was the only Ryko Bowie with no bonus tracks; but since all the Ryko's suck sound quality wise (BADLY suck at that imo), that choice to me would be a slam dunk.

I'm passing on this as I already have plenty of Bowie albums (including Aladdin Sane) and this one isn't essential for me. Important to draw a line somewhere.

The remastering of "Ziggy" was the best ever so since the same engineer is involved here as well and at $12.00 it's a no brainer for me. One of my fave Bowie albums.

I really don't see the point of this release. The original LP packaging has already been recreated for CD with the Japan mini-LP. And the 30th 2-CD is the definitive, content-wise. If there had been a SACD or vinyl (say...maybe white vinyl) release, then it would've made sense. A remix bringing out the buried "Watch That Man" vocals & boosting the bottom would also have made sense.
Me - I'm Jonesing (pun intended) for a "Pin-Ups" anniversary/deluxe edition. An ideal one would be: DISC 1) CD of original LP DISC 2) SACD of original LP + bonus tracks DISC 3) DVD of "1980 Floor Show"
