Beady Eye has announced that they have entered the studio to begin work on the follow up of their disappointing debut album.
While the last two years has shown the world which Gallagher brother is the greater songwriter, there is a glimmer of hope that the second time around for Liam and the gang won’t be as big of a disaster as the first. TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek has agreed to produce the album. Having tweaked knobs in the past for the likes of Jane’s Addiction and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, fingers crossed that Stiek can give the band a clear vision and maximize their full potential.
As you may recall from Liam Gallagher’s chat with a teenage fan outside of a pub that his band Beady Eye were searching for a new bass player. Well as it turns out they have found their guy.
Philadelphia born Jay Mehler has spent the last six years as a member of Kasabian’s extended live band. Handling lead guitar for numerous world tours for Kasabian, Mehler will replace former Beady Eye four stringer Jeff Wootton.
While the jump has been rumored amongst fans of both bands for weeks, Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno dropped the following message and video via Facebook earlier today:
“Jay is our bro we’re all good and the last six years have been mega. He’s moving on and will be incredible in Beady Eye. We thought posting an awesome video was the best way to let you guys know that he will be missed, but here it is in black and white too. Sergio x”

Good for Jay. Kasabian was never going to make him a full member, because Serge, bless his heart, is too much a control freak to let anyone else craft leads on the albums. It reminds me of why Jools Holland left Squeeze for the second time - Glenn Tilbrook was finishing too many of the keyboard parts in the studio before he even asked the rest of the band to show up.
