Question:

I currently only own any Eagles on vinyl. I assume these are from the previous remasters which I had heard good things about. Can anyone tell me if they like the sound on those?

I have the old remastered box set. I can't remember when it was released but I think it was the early 2000's. They sound kickass. This might be a money grab.

This IS a money grab (was there any question?).

But if I own no Eagles CDs I'd think about this. Most likely I'll just get the individual remasters for abour $4 a piece. As long as I know they sound good.

Yes, I bought an Asylum ere boxset of all 9 Eagles CDs back in 2009 from Amazon for 44$. Not sure wat this one contains, but mine includes a the 2 CD live set and a CD with the christmas song besides the 6 studio albums (minus the most recent one).

When I looked at the image in the first post, I assumed this was a vinyl box set, but now I see it's just CDs. If they're in fact remastered AND include all original packaging elements, I might consider buying this. When the earlier box set came out I had heard the CDs were not remastered. I still like my original CDs from the '80s, but it would be nice to have those albums in better sonic quality (assuming the remastering is done well).

The earlier box set is remastered. The sound is impeccable.

the eagles were beyond perfectionists, not unlike steely dan when it came to production.

nothing by them sounds "bad", could it be better? probably depends what you are listening to it on.

The Eagles are one of those groups that really don't have a bad song hence their Greatest Hits album sold 26M copies! They don't get the accolades for being essentially a guitar group. Between their heavenly harmonies and that impeccable guitar playing, they are a group for the ages.

This is on the money. I am always astounded by the sonic quality of certain artists from the 70s/80s who made damn sure everything sounded impeccable essentially using the studio as an instrument.

The Eagles and Steely Dan are two pefect examples and I would also add Dire Straits and The Cars to that list. I don't know if I've ever heard an album sound better than Love Over Gold.

Looks like this is along the same lines as the Joni Mitchell set I just picked up yesterday. I suspect that WB will release box sets for other artists to milk suckers like us out of a few more bucks.

BTW, the earlier box, with the live album and the Christmas single, has been languishing in the Discorama collector's case for years, so I made 'em an offer they couldn't refuse and bought it today. #19228 of a run of 20,000.

This new set is a DOWNGRADE...no Live album, no Xmas/New Year single.

I also had a CD single of the "Please Come Home For Christmas," a little 3-inch disc from Japan, with a picture of the band sitting around a swimming pool with holiday decorations around. I miss being able to go to a good record store and finding things like that.

I have a domestic single. Think it was one of those in the faux 45 sleeves with the big hole.

I don't view this as a money grab. Yeah they are a business and this is another release of existing stuff. but for people who want all of the studio (yes minus the 2000s album) in what appears to be a compact set, it seems like a good option.

Are Original Album Classics/Series sets money grabs too? Yes, but so what?

I see that CD Japan is releasing the Eagles Box [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release] on Release Date 3/27/2013.

Of course you better have a warchest of funds, it will set you back for $165.51.

These all came out in Europe in mini LP sleeves a few years back without a box. Wondering if this is basically the same set?

I know this release is still a couple of weeks away, so no one has probably seen it yet, but I'm very curious to find out if there's anything in this box other than the outer sleeves & CDs. I'd like to replace my '80s-pressed CDs with remastered versions, but if it means losing the credits, lyrics, photos, etc. then I'll probably stick with my existing discs. There don't seem to be any inner sleeves, and it doesn't look like there's any kind of booklet, but I'm hoping someone can confirm this.
