Don't know if this is enough to start a thread on-- me being new and all-- but I thought this might be of interest. Over the weekend, Richard Thompson’s website briefly mentions that “RT played on one track for the upcoming Don Henley CD.” (The site also reports that Richard has made contributions as well to son Teddy Thompson's upcoming album, and the soundtrack to the independently released film, Baraboo.)
Interestingly, it was rumored that RT was invited to join the Eagles years ago. Last summer, someone posed the question to him on one of his Q&A’s:
Q. Was it true that you were made an offer to join the Eagles back when Bernie Leadon left? If you had joined what do you think a 'Hotel California' minus Joe Walsh but plus Richard Thompson would have sounded like? ( just a bit of fun! ) A. I believe there were some feelers at the time. It would not have been an appropriate stylistic choice for me.

Eagles founder Don Henley is recording an album of country covers in Nashville with producer and drummer Stan Lynch (formerly of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), according to fan site L&M’s Eagles Fastlane.
Rumor has it that Henley will collaborate with many heavy-hitting country stars on the album, although no names appear to have escaped the studio walls thus far.
Henley has dabbled in country before in the form of “Walk Away Joe,” collaboration with Trisha Yearwood, and the Eagles were the subject of a country covers album called Common Thread in 1993 that featured Yearwood, Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson, Clint Back, Tanya Tucker, Little Texas, Diamond Rio and others.
Producer Lynch is no stranger to country, with his song “Back When” having been recorded by Tim McGraw on his Live Like You Were Dying album.
Henley’s covers album will be his first solo recording since Inside Job in 2000. Fellow Eagle Glenn Frey hasn’t released a solo album since 1992, while Timothy B. Schmit’s Expando was released last year.

Looks like we're going to have to add another YACA designation here.

Actually, I recently read an interview with Henley where he says he's working on two new albums. He said he's working on a country album and an R&B album. I think he said they would be a mixture of new material and covers, but I don't recall that for certain.
The Eagles' Don Henley has announced that he will release a country music album in May called Cass County. The album is named after the Texas county where Henley was born and raised. The original drummer for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stan Lynch, and Henley have been working on the album for three years and are finalizing the track listing now. Sixteen songs are in the can.
Speaking to Andre Gardner of WMGK in Philadelphia, Henley disclosed that the record Cass County will be released in May. Henley said the album “leans towards country. Some of it’s traditional country, some of it is what you might call alt-country, and I’ve got a lot of interesting guest vocalists and musicians on there with me. I made a lot of the album in Nashville. Some of it was recorded here in Dallas and some of it was recorded in Southern California. I’m pretty pleased with it.”

IP - are you just trying to forget Glenn Frey's YACA from last year ("After Hours")?.

Glenn's commercials for Bally's Fitness don't count? That's why I call the post-reunion(s) Eagles "The Don Henley Band". He's really the engine, and could be just fine with or without the rest who actually NEED the work.

Hardly. It's a shame how lopsided he's portrayed in the new Eagles doc. He's literally groveling in every scene, as if their 1980 hiatus was the death knell and he wouldn't be able to function as a human being if he wasn't in that band. Like he didn't have a successful career before there WAS such thing as Eagles. I wasn't really focusing on Joe in my earlier comment. I've always considered him a Johnny-come-lately within the structure of Eagles, and always refer to him a solo artist.

Has anyone heard of a new release date for Don's new album? May has come and gone. In recent interviews, he mentions his upcoming album but gives no specifics. The focus seems to be on the "History Of The Eagles" tour.

Don Henley Says His New Solo Album Is ‘In the Can’
Don Henley has been talking about his upcoming Cass County album for years — and it sounds like soon, fans might finally be able to hear it.
“I do have a solo album, as they say, ‘in the can,’” Henley told the Chideo Network. “So far, I’ve recorded 17 songs — I’ve been working on it for the last four, five years. It sort of has a country flavor. I guess you could categorize some of it as country, and some of it could be called Americana.”
But even after all this time and all that recording, Henley says he still isn’t quite finished with the LP. “I intend to record a couple more, and then we’ll start the culling process,” he said. “I’m told that now you put out a regular album, and then you put out a deluxe version of the album that has extra songs on it, so I’ve got plenty of extra songs for the deluxe version.”
Henley went on to add that he’s recorded the bulk of Cass County in Nashville, with other bits and pieces tracked in Southern California and his home studio in Dallas. As he has on previous outings, former Heartbreakers drummer Stan Lynch again joined Henley in a co-producing role, with the duo utilizing a crew of players and songwriters that form, in Henley’s estimation, the cream of the Nashville crop.
Promising “some really interesting guest stars” along with multiple duets and a trio track, Henley added, “I don’t want to give away too much of it, but there’s some very interesting people on the album, in unexpected combinations that you might not think about hearing. Ever.”
For now, Henley said he’s hoping to get Cass County out this fall, and said part of the delay has stemmed from his obligations to the Eagles, whose touring schedule hasn’t allowed him any time to properly promote the new LP. “Hopefully,” he added, “once the Eagles tour winds down in mid-June, I’ll have the time to start the promotion process.”
Eagles drummer, singer-songwriter and producer Don Henley is back with his first solo album in 15 years. Cass County is a country album featuring an all-star list of collaborators, including Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton and Mick Jagger.
Cass County is named for the northeastern Texas county where Henley was born. While country may seem like a departure for the artist known for hits such as "The Boys Of Summer" and "Dirty Laundry," Henley says the album is true to his roots. "I was born and raised in Texas. I'm a Southerner and a Texan," he says in an email. "So this is a natural progression for me. It's who I am and where I come from."
