When Alex Ross did his series of tabloid sized comcis with Paul Dini featuring DC's four Golden Age "icons", he said he felt that all superheroes boiled down to one of these genres that each hero represents -- Science Fiction (Superman), Mythology (Wonder Woman), Crime (Batman), and Magic (Captain Marvel... though I'd say this and mythology are about the same thing, but whatever).

I never did get the Wonder Woman book, but I remember liking the Batman book best.

I've only read the Batman one. I thought it was pretty, but it didn't blow me away or anything.

I enjoyed them all. They all summed up their subjects pretty well. The Superman one was the best for me.

Batman is my favorite, but I really only like Batman in the crime genre. For the most part I like the science fiction-but the earth bound stuff, Spider-man and X-men not the space-faring Green lantern/Adam Strange stuff.
So I guess I would go Science Fiction then Crime. Then mythology I guess. Magic is my least favorite.

It's hard to rank any of those by their stories rather than by the art, but if pressed, I'd go:
Batman Wonder Woman Superman
Captain Marvel
It seems to me the Marvel one is much less interesting than the other three. It could be because the character itself is less interesting to me generally, but when it comes to Alex Ross, Cap is one of my favorite of his designs.

I'm not voting because I really see everything above as the same category, but...
I think that Ross gets a lot of credit for his painting skills, and rightly so, but I feel that his pencilling skills should be acknowledged as well. He doesn't sacrifice good storytelling so that a panel is easier to paint and to the best of my recollection, I've never had a problem understanding what is going on. His facial expressions are consistent with with the context of the story and dialogue. And all of this he does within the limitations of trying to make things look real when it would be a lot easier for an artist to use the visual shorthand that allows for speed.
Although he wasn't the primary penciler on the series, his Justice is an exceptional work and one that I have longed for since I watched Challenge of the Super-Friends as a little kid.
