When I was a child I smashed a lightning bug by accident while trying to catch it and found myself with a blob of glowing something on my hand. It was kind of neat to have my hand glowing. But also sad, because I hadn't intended to kill the poor bug.

I had a buddy back when I was in elementary school, who caught about 50 fireflies.
He then proceeded to squish their abdomens, and rub the 'glowy stuff" all over his face.
Seems he wanted to glow in the dark.
Two days later at school, when his face was covered in blisters, we all laughed, and somewhere out there, those fireflies rested in eternal assurance that revenge was theirs.
