Damn I hate when the Mets lose 3 in a row and then add the Yankees and its ouch! At least the last 2 games were close and competitive.

Now the Mets have to deal with Tampa. Rough week.

JohnG, I hope you don't take it personally that I was rooting for the Yankees for the same reason you will be later this week.

No not at all. Of course you want Washington to increase their lead.

Yup. If we aren't a fluke, neither are you (although I think your team needs to improve in defense). I think my team is good enough to win 2 of 3 from the Yanks but we could also get swept, too.

The NL East suffered this weekend....except for Washington (who knocked out Boston).....Miami has lost 6 straight.

And man, SD is 19 games out of first place! in June!

The Mets are 2-6 since selling their souls to Bill Maher. They created a brand new curse two days after they broke a 50 year-old one. This once-bright season is done.

I don't know which is harder to believe:
RA Dickey is 9-1, with a 2.44 ERA,1.04 WHIP, and is averaging almost a strikeout per inning.
Cliff Lee is 0-3 after 10 starts. (!)

The Nationals are no doubt for real, but has there been any talk about innings limits for Strasburg or Zimmerman?

There's a 160 innning limit on SS. Don't know about JZ but his injury was a year earlier so he will be able to pitch more. My cousin doesn't get MASN but with the updates from the MLB network I don't think I'm missing a thing.

Yanks in a flatfooted tie for 1st with the Rays after a perfunctory 3-0 win over the Braves on Monday. They've won 4 straight and 14 of 18, but the failure to hit with the bases loaded continues to plague the team.

Mets now play 3 against Tampa and then 3 against the Reds and then 3 against the surprising Orioles, so the tough schedule has hurt their momentum after that fun Cardinals series over a week ago.

If they can get through this rough patch at .500, they'll be ok.

Still Bay and Davis are not hitting enough. That's a big hole in a lineup.

Yah think Yankee fans now have to root for the Mets? :D

How the mighty have fallen! Vladimir Guerrero was released from his minor-league contract by the Blue Jays.

btw....actually heard a Yankee fan call into WFAN today saying he's actually rooting for Tampa to sweep the Mets (and the guy lives in Massapeuqa).
Some Yankee fans hate the Mets more than the real Yankee competition (including Boston). Yes, many Yankee fans actually rooted for Boston to beat the Mets in 1986.

So this is one reason I don't take that Boston/ NY nonsense to seriously.

I know some Yankee fans that actually seem to take more delight in the Mets losing than the Yankees winning. I don't get it either. The only times I'll root against the Mets are when they are playing the Yankees or Braves, or during periods when they have a number players that I really don't like(Alomar, Delgado, Frankie Rodriguez,Bobby Bo, et al.

I don't hate the Mets as much as the Red Sox or Rays. Why would I?

Got to say though I am a Mets fan, I've never rooted against the Yankees unless it's a one on one series like in 2000. And that's to be expected.
I am first a NY fan since I was born here. So I root for any NY team that makes the Playoffs so this Jets fan was happy for the NY Giants football club this past year.

Never understood why a NYer would root for another city.

The Yanks and Mets are both on the road tonight. Doesn't happen too often. They rarely have homestands at the same time either.

ARod has tied Lou Gehrig with 23 Grand Slams!! The Yanks looked weak vs. Mike Minor with only 5 hits but The Braves brought in Jonny Venters and he gave it up. The cano singled and Swisher broke the tie and The Braves! Alone on 1st Place. Thanks Mets!

Nice for the Yankees but I'm kinda pissed that creep in Massapequa gets a Yankee win and a Tampa loss all in the same night. I'd like to punch that bastard out. :D

It looks like A-Rod will probably stand alone at the top of the all-time GS list, eventually, and hold the record for a good while, probably. Albert Pujols is the next closest active player at 12. Derrek Lee also has 12 but doesn't have a MLB team this year yet.

Correction: Jason Giambi is the next closest active player at 14, but isn't likely to catch A-Rod.

Wow! RA Dickey goes 9 innings once again, gives up only 1 hit (once again) and wins his league leading 10th victory. :D
After a disastrous weekend with the Yankees (and all hope was lost) the Mets suddenly win 2 games against Tampa.
