True enough, however, I've always felt that one of the determining factors in selecting a particular (set of) recording(s) as part of the Bootleg Series is how it has fared as an actual bootleg.
I thought it was cool to see the Witmark demos see their day as a legitimate release.

I see there is a copy of the Dylan Mono box on Ebay with a starting bid of $24.95...out of Zhabei, China.

Can you tell from packaging if it's counterfeit? I just got one from a US vendor on Amazon, and everything looks OK until I put the CDs in my computer and Windows Media Player offers the album info in Chinese

That might just be your computer. I just got a new Dell and half of the CD's I play come up with the album info in Chinese. In fact, the CD currently in my player is an advance from a label buddy of mine - the album and song info are coming up in Chinese, and I know it's not a bootleg!

I wonder what happens if you put a CD with the song "Turning Japanese" into one of these computers...?

Windows Media Player sometimes digs out some odd tracklistings for certain albums--sometimes they have the correct artist, but the wrong album/songs. I'm guessing the the issue may somehow tie in with user-submitted disc/track info--people customizing particular song on particular albums for their particular Media Player playlist...although it's generally iTunes, not WIndows Media Player that asks my permission to access my disc info for Gracenote, despite the fact that all I generally have is the disc info that iTunes provides, so what the hell do I know.

I don't know about Windows Music Player, but the info iTunes pulls up is from an independent company caled Gracenotes. All it does is "guess" the CD from their database based on the track order and length, then pulls up matching possibilities. I put in a self-burned 3-song disc of a band I was in, and it suggested it was an Eminem EP. (It wasn't.)

So basically, that's no indication whether your Dylan box is Chinese.
