I'm half-way through the recent reprinting of Archie Goodwin and Howard Chaykin's Nick Fury and Wolverine: The Scorpio Connection: great art, esp. lavished on evoking international settings, and crisp, witty dialogue. I really enjoy work from this era of Marvel.

Caught up completely to the present on Unwritten (issues 35, 35.5, and 36). This was part of me switching from trade-waiting to floppies because I could no longer stand waiting.
Man -- this series is like some "Up there with Alan Moore" type stuff.

I just got Earth 2 #1 based on the positive reactions here.
I'm surprised so many liked it -- it seemed to be the painfully cliched "grim 'n gritty apocolyptic world" that all the previews promised. And hey, Batman shows what a mastermind he is -- "Let's blow up their portal's power source!" No one else on Earth would have though of that -- good one, Bruce.
C-
I felt the same way, plus there was no reason to name it Earth 2. it was nothing like it, it was just another What If world.
Well, I think Earth 2 is a pretty handy way of titling a series about an alternate reality.
And if the classic version of Earth 2 doesn't yet exist in the New 52, it doesn't make sense to call this "Earth 37" or whatever it would be in the old alternate Earth numbering system.
I bought the comic that birthed the classic Earth 2 off the spinner. I mention this so you all know I'm not stating this lightly. Hanzo is right. Earth 2, 37, 616 whatever; as Nu52 is a COMPLETE reboot, the phrase "Earth 2" has NO special signifigane other than a label.
In fact, I'd have preferred that the same week's Action Comics with President Superman was labeled Earth 3 instead of Earth 23. I'd like to see the whole 52 unfold numerically.
Brother Allen, the classics still exist in our hearts and on our shelves. Nu52 is it's own animal top to bottom. It's hard for me, especially the 'no trunks' rule that seems to be in effect, but I live in eternal hope that Weisinger World will someday return.

What's with the funky numbering? Thanks.
They gave an explanation, but it was unsatisfying. "Funky" is as good an explanation as any.
It was coming out more frequently than monthly, for one thing. And the half-numbered issues are back-history that is not on the main Tommy Taylor plot. But it gradually converged and the history became the same as the plot.

What is the premise of "Unwritten"?
It's all about literature, about stories, and how the shared stories that people love actually drive reality -- stories affect reality. And there's a cabal that has been manipulating the stories throughout history to control the world. It partakes of many different familiar novels and stories, and real life writers, but also made up stories and historical figures. The "quest" by the good guys to figure out what's going on reminded me a lot of Preacher. There's the main guy who's trying to figure out "what am I, what role do I play here?" and he's got two sidekicks that reminded of Preacher.

X-0 Manowar #1 is fantastic.
Were you a fan of the original?
I don't think I've ever read it. I'd read the first few issues of Magnus and Doctor Solar when they were relaunched, but I'm more familiar with the Gold Key versions than the Valiant ones.

X-O Manowar is about a 5th century Visigoth warrior abducted by aliens during a war with the Romans, who (I assume, hasn't happened yet) breaks free and steals ultra-power alien power armor. It's illustrated by Cary Nord, who had an incredible run with Kurt Busiek on Conan. The art is beautiful.

I've been torn about this since I love the original and now it being relaunched.
Is this relaunch a total reboot? What about Shooter or Layton?
It appears to be a total reboot.
Shooter was originally hired to be Editor-In-Chief of Valiant, but they parted company nastily after Shooter started writing the Gold Key relaunch for Dark Horse. I think there's a lawsuit involved.
