There was also a 2 CD version called Greatest Hits & More released in 2010 which added:

Yet another pointless comp, although a solid one trackwise. The sales were good largely due to the 2010 Super Bowl appearance. The 2 CD version became moot when the next album arrived later that year.

I think that all of the live songs on the second disc were from "View From A Backstage Pass".

Well, they had to add that smash hit from Endless Wire, so I can see that comp as justified.

This release was confusing and frustrating. Fans who had ponied up $50 now saw many of the Backstage Pass tracks end up here (not all of course), and then we had the confusing decision to include songs from the 1989 reunion tour (not sure if these are also on Join Together but they sound similar) and nothing at all from the Kenny Jones era! And why would we get tunes from 2007-09 and not 1979-1982? I have no idea. Overall, it's still a decent release and I listen from time to time but it could've been so much better. The lame-ass title implies they were afraid some non-fan would be scared off by a real title and thus not be sucked in by the "greatest hits" implication. Didn't matter as the album sold poorly failing to chart and leading to more fan discontent then pleasure.

Yeah, and they probably concluded from the poor sales that there is no market for live archive releases. Ha. A dubious conclusion at best, given the nature of this set. "Let's piss off the people who shelled out $50 for VFABP by putting half that album on here. Then let's piss off the people who didn't buy it with the fact that we've only included half." Completely ignoring the Jones years is indeed strange, and even more bizarre is the heavy emphasis on 1989... isn't that everyone's least favorite Who tour ever?

Maybe they didn't want to pay Kenney any money. I think that he was a full member of the band as soon as he joined whereas the 1989 players (I assume) were all on salary. I'd assume that Zak, Pino, Simon and Rabbit are also salaried.

I believe Zak was actually made a member a couple years ago.
Nope - I take that back. Zak's Wikipedia page says he was offered the chance to be a full member of the Who and he declined.
And it's fairly well known that Keith Moon claimed he was never officially told he was a member of the band. He referenced it in TKAA. It comes across as kind of joking in there, but one of the bios claimed that he never truly felt he was as "full" a member as the other three.

Alan Which is funny, because in Amazing Journey, Daltrey talks about how HE was always the outsider, how they kicked him out for a month because he flushed their uppers down the drain in a fit of paranoia, and how he never felt integral to the band until they started touring Tommy. He asked Townshend, "Can I be Tommy?" and that's how he found his onstage persona that we all think of.

I've always read that Roger was kicked out for fighting too much with the others.
This story though reminds me of RIngo's oft-told "I thought it was you three" tale of the Beatles in 1968 when they weren't getting along too well.

Something else I've noticing (I need to dig a little further to confirm this): The Who compilations that have arrived post-2002 seem to be lacking in Entwistle songs; when he was still alive, best-ofs tended to include either "Boris The Spider" or "My Wife", songs absent from more recent comps like "Then And Now", "Amazing Journey", etc. Again, I need to double-check this in order to come up with some actual facts to cite, but it's something I just noticed.

I'm not sure if you covered it, but I was noticing the various best of's mentioned; & was reminded that I picked up an 88/24 hi-rez copy of a 26 song 2011 Japanese comp called "The Singles"; & somewhat surprisingly, it tends to sound like a bit like poop as far as sound quality, especially the earlier stuff. Not at all what I expected.
I've never paid a lot of attention to the sound quality of the Who, but as this is an official SACD release & the Japanese are usually quite skilful with their mastering (especially Universal Japan, it makes me wonder if this stuff was poorly recorded?
There are 3 different mastering engineers credited, though.

Most of their 60's stuff was pretty poorly recorded, yeah. Which songs are you talking about specifically?
