Yes, that is a good comp...unfortunately, it looks like most of it will also be on this box set! Sigh....

Somehow I knew the tracklist for this would be underwhelming - exactly 50 percent of the tracks on this thing can be found on their studio albums - including the forgettable throwaway track that they named this set after!!

The other box set coming out that I STILL have high hopes for is the Thin Lizzy unreleased material set. At least with that one, since it will be made up of recently discovered unreleased songs, it is implied that we don't have to wade through a bunch of material we already have to get to what we are buying it for!

Actually, from what I understand the Lizzy box will mostly be alternate versions of songs we've heard plenty of times before. Of course I'll get it, but right now I am not 100% sure I need it.

Well, "the first definitive career-spanning, multi-label boxed set" should have been a dead giveaway that this wasn't going to be an all-rarities affair. The content ratios and even the promotion frankly remind me of the Daryl Hall & John Oates box set, which I believe was also a Legacy release.

Like a lot of sets, this is going to have too many previously-released tracks to please the hardcore fans, and too many rarities for the casually interested. This is why I've never been a big boxed-set guy. (Well, that and my budget...)

Tracklisting for the DVD has not been mentioned in previous messages, nor has the artwork yet been featured. Too much ground to cover to make this box set the definitive statement I was hoping for. You almost need a separate 4-CD Mushroom/Portrait/Epic box to begin scratching the surface. Long wait - big disappointment.

The "demo" of "Heartless" is most definitely NOT the original version from the European LP; it's obviously much earlier and, to me, sounds quite raw and unfinished. Interesting, but not what I was hoping for. Clearly Linda is correct that the Wilson sisters have no intention of ever letting the tracks from Magazine v1.0 get any kind of official release. We'll just have to enjoy that music on LP.

Or on CD if you know the right people.

The good news is the original LP is relatively common.

I got the Amazon exclusive box yesterday. I have no idea if the demos of "Here Song" or "Heartless" are from the original Mushroom LP or not as I've never had the privilege of hearing it. Nancy says in the liner notes that "Heartless" comes from a sound check, but it's listed along with "Here Song" as being recorded at Kaye-Smith studios in 1976. The sound of "Heartless" is so different that I'm guessing it was from a sound check. Plus I read this on Wiki: One of the most obvious differences is that on the original recording of "Heartless" Ann Wilson sings "The doc said come back again next week..." On the re-recorded version she sings "doctor" instead. Ann clearly sings "doctor" on this so-called demo version. Also, the Dreamboat Annie edit threw me for a loop at first. It's the complete "Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child)" which segways into the orchestrated bridge of the "Reprise" (the 1:45 mark of the album track to conclusion).

ajc, the melody on the chorus of the released alternate Heartless is totally different than the regular version.

I am getting really ticked off at Amazon for the first time ever. I pre-ordered this and it STILL has not shipped. Of all items to do this with, they pick the one I've been waiting on for years. Hope that means it is selling beyond expectations.
