Have extra CDs taking up space? You can now trade them into Amazon:

Linda adds -- Amazon's trade-in section can be found here:

Prices don't seem too bad on some stuff.

Well, if it's not selling, it's probably more money than your local used CD place would give...

I've found a few things on my "for sale" list so far that are worth trading in. For example, who else is going to give me $2 for a moderately-scratched copy of AC/DC's Blow Up Your Video?

Not that it matters all that much, but does anyone have any idea what they plan to do with all of this stuff? Are they going to boost their own offerings in the Amazon Marketplace or perhaps pawn the stuff off on third party sellers?

In many cases, I will pay significantly more than Amazon for scratch free cd's & dvd's. I also offer consignment with a 50/50 split.

Wow. The Amazon machine offered me $0.55 potentially for my opened but mint copy of "Sat. Nights/Sunday Mornings" by Counting Crows. I love CCs but for some reason that record is just too intense. I'd love to let it go...but not for half a buck!

PS: If anybody finds a copy of the remastered "Supersession" (Stills, Kooper, Bloomfield) on CD with the yellow "Legacy/SONY" sticker intact in a clean case...hey let me know! I need the case!

It all sounds like the ultimate fire sale for CDs. Discouraging that after all these years of collecting music, its all essentially worthless to anyone but myself.

Amazon is trying to corner the CD market by hoarding all of the discs that collectors have been hoarding.

The last step of their plan is to come after Jimbo.

That will be futile.

I'm not 100% sure but Jimbo doesn't sell his CDs to anyone. Amazon will have to pry them from his hands. :D

Not, I hope, from his cold, dead hands. :shoot:

I've got some stuff I'd like to move. I usually give it to my son who works at a small indie store. They pay fair prices but there's lots they won't take as they have a limited market.
I figure even if I get a buck or two it's better than having it simply take up space.

On the other hand, I have, seriously, talked to the owner of 'Rama, and my pal Jamal, about divesting some of my vinyl. Both stores have greatly expanded their record sections. Stay tuned.

Question about Amazon's trade-in eligibility criteria: They say they won't take CDs that are "marked not for resale (or otherwise marked not for sale)." Does that include cut-out markings or punch-holes through the bar code? I wouldn't think so, but I don't want to waste time sending items in just to be rejected.

I would think they don't want cut-outs.
