Has anyone here been to Metropolis Illinois and their annual Superman festival? Wondering if it is worth going to one day.

Yeah, I wonder why they had Ross Andru draw all those covers when they had Curt Swan. I guess Andru had a more contemporary style?

Poor Luthor had to limbo in order to get shot in the chest while he faces the camera.

Quote: Iran bans Simpsons dolls but ok with Superman and Spiderman [ fake fans! ]
London, Feb 7 (ANI): The Simpsons have joined Barbie on the list of dolls prohibited in Iran as part of a decades-long crackdown on signs of western culture.
But bizarrely, the fictional US superheroes Superman and Spiderman are being allowed on sale because they help "the oppressed".
"We don't want to promote this cartoon by importing the toys," the Daily Mail quoted Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults' secretary Mohammad Hossein Farjoo as telling Iran's Shargh newspaper. He also said that any doll on which genitals are distinguishable, as well as dolls of adults, were banned and so were toys with speakers that blare out the voices of Western singers, or toy kitchen sets that include glasses for drinking alcoholic beverages.
Farjoo did not elaborate on what was wrong with the Simpsons specifically but said that dolls of Spiderman and Superman were authorised for sale.
"They help oppressed people and they have a positive stance," he said.
The move follows last month's decision to close down several shops in capital Tehran for selling Barbies.
The dolls were officially banned in the mid-1990s but had until recently been openly on sale. http://in.news.yahoo.com/iran-bans-simp ... 10331.htmlFunny that an oppressive government approves of champions of the oppressed...

Now it's appropriate and you won't write it all? The move follows last month's decision to close down several shops in capital Tehran for selling Barbies.

Tonight's big guest announcement for Dallas Comic Con (they've been doing one every night) is that Brandon Routh will be there. And I caught myself smiling. I'm that big of a Superman fan.

I watched the 70s Superman movie a couple of nights ago. I was surprised that my DVD version included the extra footage of Luthor's death traps. I saw those once before on TV.
And I don'r remember that scene at all where Reeve is talking to Brando about his first night as Superman being fun. Ugh.
Still a pretty good movie overall.

Quote: IDW And The Library Of American Comics To Collect 'Superman' Newspaper Strips After saving the world for almost 75 years, Superman's publication history across comics of all kinds is pretty staggering, meaning some of the Man of Steel's printed adventures were bound to slip through the cracks. Take the Superman newspaper strips that ran from 1939-1966. Only about 10 percent of its 25-year run have been reprinted. Luckily for Man of Steel completionists, the Library of American Comics, a subsidiary of IDW Publishing, has announced a partnership with DC Entertainment to re-publish the entirety of Superman's newspaper adventures in a series of deluxe hardcovers. The complete series will run through three different sets of hardcovers, each comprising a different era in Superman's publication history, The Silver Age, The Atomic Age, and The Golden Age. Starting with The Silver Age Vol. 1: 1958-1961, available in July, the hardcovers will collect more than 800 strips from Superman artists like Curt Swan, Wayne Boring, and Stan Kaye. Perhaps most importantly, the republished strips also feature Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel's scripts that adapted of some of the then-current regular DC Comics storylines. "It's like discovering an entire alternate universe of famous Silver Age comic book stories. It's better than an imaginary story-it's Jerry Siegel doing a remake of his classic Superman's Return to Krypton! ...it's Curt Swan, not Al Plastino, drawing The Menace of Metallo. Superman fans might want to consider these strips as taking place on a brand new world- Earth-N for Newspapers!" said Dean Mullaney, creative director of the Library of American Comics, in IDW's official press release. Batman and Wonder Woman newspaper strip hardcover collections have also been announced, though specific release details are still pending. http://www.comicsalliance.com/2013/03/1 ... omics-idw/

Quote: It's like discovering an entire alternate universe of famous Silver Age comic book stories. That's a good description. I'm in for the collection when it hits digital. Hopefully they'll do the Batman Silver Age dailies next. (And the Batman Pop-Tarts mini-comics!)
