If they are all already infected, then what does a zombie bite do?
Are we to assume it is some sort of accelerant?

Great final episode... although the two big reveals seemed tailored for people who know the comics.

I haven't but I have an idea of who Michonne is and what the Prison is, so I am really anticipating next season. Still, I wonder how much impact those moments had to someone who only watches the show and is not familiar with the comics. OK Michonne with the armless, mouth-sewn walkers would still be intriguing, I'll give them that!

Big impact on us. That was an amazing visual that was totally alien to everything that we've seen so far. A true WTF moment. As for the final shot, we sort of figured out what it was. Talking Dead gave that away during their show as well, while also giving a sex and a name to the new character.

Yeah, it really was a WTF scene. I literally said it out loud when I saw it.

Punch her in the neck.

I'm not the biggest fan of Rick in the comics and I sorta carried that bias over to the TV show. However he was so awesome in tonight's show, especially the end rant turned me on into a Rick fan. Which in turn puts Lori at the top of my hate list, now ahead of Carl.

Don't worry, they'll blame her 180 on being pregnant...

AMC’s The Walking Dead continues to grow and shatter basic cable records. Last night’s Season 2 finale of the zombie drama posted 9 million viewers and 6 million adults 18-49, hitting series highs in total viewers and all key demo categories. Vs. the Season 1 finale, The Walking Dead was up a big 51% in total viewers, 50% in adults 18-49 and 50% in adults 25-54 (5.3 million).

The series eclipsed its previous highs, 8.1 million total viewers, 5.4 million in 18-49 and 4.4 million in 25-54 logged by the second season premiere. Those 18-49 and 25-54 deliveries were the highest ever for a basic cable drama series. Now they will be replaced in the record book by last night’s deliveries. The Walking Dead ranks as the No.1 drama series in basic cable history in such key demos as Adults and Men 18-34, Adults and Men 18-49, and Adults and Men 25-54. For season 2, the series averaged 6.9 million viewers, up 32% vs. season one, 4.6 million in adults 18-49 (up 32%) and 4 million in 25-54 (up 32%).

“Congratulations to everyone associated with AMC’s The Walking Dead and thank you to the fans for creating, literally, record-setting television,” said AMC president Charlie Collier.

Don't believe those numbers are known yet but as an example.

March 4
The Walking Dead had 6.77 million viewers with a 3.5 rating in the 18-49 age demo.
Comic Book Men had 1.51 million viewers with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 age demo.

March 11
The Walking Dead had 6.88 million viewers with a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 age demo.
Comic Book Men had 1.74 million viewers with a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 age demo.

A bite will turn you into a zombie even if you aren't dead yet.

Hopefully the financial success of the show will result in bigger budgets (more zombies, more big battles) for next year.

No, I'm pretty sure that a bite brings on a fever/sickness that kills you pretty quickly (depending on where you're bit). So the bite essentially kills you. The infection (that you already have), brings you back in all your Zombie goodness.

Pretty sure that's how it works.

I think the finale proved one of the world's great truisms ... the MORE Zombies, the BETTER! The wide angle shots of the herd crossing big empty fields were great. Anytime we can SEE the hopelessness of their numbers ... just awesome, Romeroesque stuff! Bigger budgets would make scenes like that possible more often ... I hope.

I'd love to see them play around with the flashback ideas that we read about earlier. Maybe not a full episode's worth, but I always like getting glimpses of the world during the initial outbreak. And if you could use those little glimpses to shed some light on existing characters, then so much the better.

* also, they'd be an opportunity to check out some characters that are long dead and gone.

I never, ever, ever thought that I'd enjoy a zombie show. I've never understood the attraction.

But I truly enjoy this show (when it's going full throttle like this week).

Everybody is infected.
If you fall down a flight of stairs and break your neck, or keel over with a heart attack, or whatever, you come back. This 'thing' has gotten to everybody. It's a world wide bug of some sort.
So, like the guy who Shane killed, he turned, just like he would have if he'd been bit. Same with Shane.
If somebody gets bit, it probably just accelerates the dying and zombification process. They had the idea that you could only get it if you were bit, because nobody really knew otherwise up to that point.

This is the best explanation that I've heard so far.

And if it is a virus, that's a pretty cool way to keep yourself propagating.

Hasn't the problem between AMC and the producers of Breaking Bad and Walking Dead been that AMC pressured them to create episodes on a tighter than possible budget?

Yup. It always seems that the more money something makes, the less they want to spend on it.

This pretty much killed the Planet Of The Apes franchise back in the 70's.

What bothered me about the group after Rick told them they were all infected, was that suddenly they started to question Rick. Carol tried to push Daryl to try to take over because she didn't trust Rick anymore. For two seasons, Shane's behavior was getting more erratic and all of them knew that he killed Otis but nobody said anything except for Dale. I wouldn't blame Rick for abandoning the lot of them!

Yeah, she really pissed me off too. What did she want Rick to do -- let Shane kill him?

Someone called in to the Talking Dead aftershow and asked about that. Both Kirkman and Mazzara danced around that implying that she didn't really want Rick to kill Shane. If that's not the impression they were trying to make with her then they failed on whatever they actually were trying to do.
