I hate mustard so it's chili dogs for me, or the occasional corn dog with a little ketchup. Haven't had much of either since moving away from Tampa and Mel's.

But I can't eat ketchup anymore.
If I had to eat a hot dog these days, I'd probably use miracle whip.

I am going to share with you my own Midwest myopia as it relates to hot dogs.
I don't understand chili dogs. I like chili. I like hot dogs. I don't think they necessarily go great together. Hot dogs only make chili saltier.
What is the deal with sauerkraut and hot dogs? Sauerkraut is rarely good by itself and adding a hot dog does not improve things. If New Yorkers and the like weren't so vocal about their cuisine being the best always no one would even think twice about sauerkraut on a hot dog.
Cheese and/or Miracle Whip? Like, where the hell does that come from?

Nagoo wrote: Cheese and/or Miracle Whip? Like, where the hell does that come from? For me, Miracle Whip was an alternative to ketchup, which I could no longer eat for reasons of food sensitivities. The added moisture is needed on a dry hot dog bun. I've never cared for mustard, hate sour kraut, would think chili too messy like that (but also can't eat it alone anymore, either), and tend to dislike hot spicy things, so horse radish and relish are out. Bacon sounds good, but why ruin good bacon with a hot dog? Hot dogs or bologna are things I can eat and occasionally still do, but never really liked. Cheese adds something good to it, though.

Note that a "chili dog" is not the same as what we have here in the Cincy area called a "coney", which, while it shares the name chili with its more widely known spicy relation, has nothing much else in common with it. It's also not the same as what New Yorkers call a coney.
