Kihn's Beserkley years have been anthologized several times by different labels over the years, but everything is OOP, so this looks like a good grab if you don't have one of the earlier comps.

CD reissues of the individual Beserkley albums command high prices on the used market.

Kihn posted that he now has control of his Beserkley catalog. I believe this is the first of it.

I loved these guys in their day. Looking forward to who was involved in the remastering. As Jimbo has stated, their has been previous comps which I have but with that still have interest in this.

Here's what Kihn said over at his website:

"It has taken me years to finally get all the rights to release all my old stuff that originally appeared on the legendary label Beserkley Records. But, all that hard work has paid off and now we have the green light to re-release the entire catalogue."

So.. "re-release the entire catalogue" sure sounds like the individual albums will get re-released.

My understanding is that the individual Beserkley albums were never released on CD in the US. The late 80s/early 90s European CDs are selling for very high prices on Ebay. I saw a copy of "Glass House Rock" go for over $120.00 a few years back.

Kihn had a handful of "dance mixes" on the early 80s singles - Jeopardy, Reunited, and Lucky are three that I know of. And there was a four song Live EP in 1981, and three song live promo in 1978...and live radio shows on King Biscuit, Westwood One, and NBC's The Source. I suspect these will probably be straight reissues, but it would be nice if some of this extra material was added as bonus tracks.

In a track-by-track comparison to Rhino's "Kihnsolidation" compilation, this adds:
All The Right Reasons
Moulin Rouge
Valerie
When The Music Starts
Every Love Song
Tear That City Down
Love Never Fails

and drops the songs:

Lucky
Small Change
Annabelle Lee
Love and Rock & Roll

Yep, I have a few of the early albums on CD, issued by the German label Line.

Look how long it took! THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS. I'm a huge Greg Kihn fan, and this is one of those "holy grail" moments. His CD catalog is atrocious and virtually non-existent.

The first five (Greg Kihn, Greg Kihn Again, Glass House Rock, With The Naked Eye and Next Of Kihn) have all been issued digitally in various territories, and Beserkley themselves did RocKihnRoll and Kihnspiracy for a very short time. The phenomenal Kihntinued and Kihntagious have never been on CD (as far as I know). I have them all, but packaging is bare-bones and quality (i.e. volume level) is horrid. Bring 'em on!

I have three different anthologies by the Greg Kihn Band...looks like there is enough material not on the other ones that will "force" me to add this to my collection. Can't wait for the reissuing of all 11 of the cds. Hopefully, Greg will add extra tracks. There was a live anthology album called Bezerk Times that had live sides by Kihn, Earthquake, The Rubinoos and the Tyla Gang. There was a, so far, unreleased song by Greg called "Future Girl" that is really good.

Strange it says that it includes "all the hits" and yet leaves off "Lucky." Oh well, I'll get it to compare the mastering to the other comps... This is great news that GK has acquired his entire Beserkley catalog. I've been wondering for years why this catalog had been neglected. Here's hoping we see remasteres of each Beserkley album on CD soon. And better yet w/ rarities, like b-sides, single versions, 12" remixes, etc.

"Lucky" was issued on EMI after he changed labels. Rhino licensed "Lucky" and a couple of other EMI tracks for the Kihnsolidation comp.

D'oh! That's right. I forgot that Citizen Kihn and L&R&R were on EMI. That sucks, I was getting excited about remasters for those two as well.

80′s rocker Greg Kihn has announced the May 15 release of Greg Kihn Band; Best of Berserkley, 1974-1985. The upcoming release is a victory of sorts for Kihn, who for the past 16-plus years, has been an on-air personality with KFOX-FM 102.1 San Francisco / 98.5 San Jose.

Kihn was one of Beserkley’s most popular artists in terms of sales. His 1983 record Kihnspiracy was certified gold for 500,000 units sold, driven by the success of his single ‘Jeopardy’ which landed in heavy rotation during MTV’s earliest days. In 1986 however, Beserkely closed up shop, licensing their entire catalogue, including Kihn’s recordings, to Rhino Records.

Best of Beserkely 1974-1985 features a total of 21 tracks, 19 of which are remastered versions of original hits such as ‘The Breakup Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em Like That)’, ‘Happy Man’, ‘Reunited” and of course, ‘Jeopardy’.

Kihn, along with Pat Benatar and the Steve Miller Band will be performing at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California on Saturday July 14, 2012 as a part of the annual KFOX-FM Kinhcert.

In addition to his radio gig, Kihn has written four novels and is currently shopping a television series about the Mafia.

“I wrote the pilot and what they call ‘the bible,’ which is the plot for the entire season. It’s called ’45 RPM,’” he told Ultimate Classic Rock in December. “I’ve been down to Hollywood a couple of times, we’re meeting with various networks and production companies, there’s genuine interest here. So far so good, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed.”

I received my copy today and this is definitely the best these songs have ever sounded. I'm really looking forward to remasters of each of the Beserkley-era studio albums (hopefully w/ bonus tracks). The CD also comes with a nice booklet with notes from GK about each track along with musician info.

http://blog.musicinsidermagazine.com/20 ... cy-theory/

Now we are planning to release each album, in chronological order, in the near future. Now that I have the legal right to put them out, I just want to put it all out there … it’s legacy building. This stuff has been out of print for so long, I just want to have a presence in the record bin, if you will.

It's slightly louder than the "Best Of Kihn" compilation, but sounds good. I'll be buying all the albums.
