Original KISS Drummer PETER CRISS To Release Memoir Via SIMON & SCHUSTER Imprint

According to the Los Angeles Times, original KISS drummer Peter Criss has signed a deal with the Simon & Schuster imprint Scribner to publish his memoir, "Makeup To Breakup", in the fall of 2012. A press release promises, "From sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll to multiple brushes with death, 'Makeup To Breakup' will be Peter Criss' unvarnished and eye-opening life story."

Criss will write the book with the help of Larry "Ratso" Sloman.

"I am so blessed that I am finally going to write my autobiography, and I hope you enjoy the ride," Criss said in the release. "The best of all is I get to share my true feelings of my love for God, family, friends and fame. It's been a wonderful life."

While some men feel embarrassed because of "this macho crap," Criss told CNN surviving breast cancer was actually a blessing. He was treated before the tumor could spread and said he was speaking about male breast cancer to raise the profile of this rare disease.

Criss, who played drums for KISS and was known as "Catman," offered this advice to men who spot lumps in their breast: "Don't sit around playing Mr. Tough Guy. Don't say 'It's going to go away.' It might not and you might not see life anymore and how beautiful that is."

Criss, who is currently working on a new rock album, told Reuters his bout with cancer had affected his songwriting.

"My lyrics are not so deep and dismal," he said. One of the tracks on the album, expected next year, is called "Hard Rock Knockers".

Hard Rock Knockers? Is that a Spinal Tap cover, or something?

How long until Gene says Eric Singer can do a better job of writing Peter's autobiography?

I'm looking forward to this one - hopefully it comes out, but fall of 2012 is a long way away. Kiss could do three farewell tours in that time.

The rock & roll library just keeps expanding! The latest to add his life to the ever-increasing stack of life stories is none other than Peter Criss. The once (and forever) Kiss drummer will issue ‘Makeup To Breakup’ on October 23 via Scribner, which is an imprint of the publishing giant Simon & Schuster. A press release assures us “‘Makeup To Breakup’ will be Peter Criss’ unvarnished and eye-opening life story. From sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll to multiple brushes with death.”

Speaking with Artisan News, Criss said of his bio, “It’s about my life. Of course, it’s about drugs, sex and rock and roll, but it’s about my parents, my growing up, getting through Brooklyn, going through gangs, getting into drugs, getting out of them, getting through cancer. I’m four years free of cancer now. I’m doing great.”

Criss, who is also working on a new album, is getting some help putting the book together from noted author Larry ‘Ratso’ Sloman, who has previously worked on books by Howard Stern and Anthony Kiedis, as well as penning his own books on Bob Dylan and Abbie Hoffman among others.

“I hope you enjoy the ride.” Criss said of the book, “The best of all is I get to share my true feelings of my love for God, family, friends and fame. It’s been a wonderful life.”

It takes Peter a long time to write. He announced he was working on a book back around 1988 or so.

I'll believe it when I read it. I'm sure it'll be a very even-handed account of what happened behind-the-scenes in KISS over the years.

Gene $immons must have gotten to the publisher.

When the book does come out, Gene's response will be "Peter is a drug addict. He's in denial. He was in the biggest band in the world and he blew it. He was fired. Our new album is a cross between Destroyer and peat moss."

Gene: "Peter's book is a flight of fancy - a cross between Pinocchio and an interstate rest stop tourism pamphlet."

I recently shared a can of "Spaghetti-O's" with Mr. Chaim Witz (p/k/a Gene Simmons) and during the meal he delineated to me what he saw as the bad points of Mr. George Peter John Criscuola (p/k/a Peter Criss), to wit:
1. Rotten pool player.
2. Rotten bowler.
3. Rotten cornet player.
4. Can’t speak French.
5. Doesn’t pay his debts.
