Those exact words? No.

But I think he's referencing the outrage fanboys spew whenever he criticizes DC or Marvel Comics.

I think he's pre-emptively martyring himself to deflect any criticism that he's a) whining, b) a douche bag, c) really fucking pompous, and d) all of the above.

For my mind, you get to be really fucking pompous when you write something as good as Watchmen, which is why I asked the question earlier. However, it's not exclusive, and you can reach a tipping point where your pomposity drops into douchebaggery.

If you're raging against The Machine for acting like The Machine, what are you really raging against, and how impotent does that make you?

Except he's right. The people who want Watchmen movies, prequels, Halloween costumes and V for Vendetta movies and whatever else are getting them. It seems weird to me that people are not only getting what they want, but disliking Alan Moore for not approving of what they want. It started with the terrible V for Vendetta movie. People were calling him whiny for not approving of a crappy movie because it hampered their enjoyment for some reason.

You and I seem to be on the same page, Jim -- and have been so since this topic was first brought up. :ohyes:

I agree as well. people hunt him down to ask his opinion, he has every right to voice it, then complain that they don't like his opinion. He DID create this stuff, unlike creators who whine about stuff they didn't even create. If people stop asking him, these quotes would not be repetitive.

In a way he reminds me of Ditko, which is why he probably admires him. Right or wrong , agree or disagree, he has his values and he sticks to them. To him, a man's word is everything and he felt deceived by DC. Then people to expect him to like it. He could have bitched about it and collect his royalties but he chose not to take any money and give it to his collaborators. The only other person I know of who would do that is Ditko.

One thing we can definitely all agree on, though, is that this new "Earth 2" stuff from DC is going to be really bad. Am I right?

Yes.

Hell yes.

He seems to have a pretty good sense of humor in the various youtube videos.....and he's been immortalized as a Simpsons character.
Its a shame he no longer does Superhero comics, but at least he went out on his own terms.

He's actually very cool in interviews, and comes across as a generous person, creatively speaking. I don't know if "humble" is the right word, but he just seems very correct about where things stand most of the time. He seems well-adjusted.

I think part of his problem is that wry, British manner of speaking doesn't come through in the printed word sometimes.

My point something that can sound rascally or even charming doesn't translate as well to print.

There's that British sensibility we all love so much.

A Watchmen character. Drawn by Jim Lee.

That's either a fan's greatest dream or his worst nightmare.
