I would have gone with Astro City, but I haven't really enjoyed the last arc. So I choose Marvels. The Wizard's Tale was pretty good.

Astro city was great but Kurt kind of busted it down to second class by putting everything else before it and it ran out of gas at one point.
His Avengers run was a lot of fun but kind of a retake on the old Avenger runs.
Seems like a lot of his stuff reads like an ode to yesteryear but JLA/Avengers was for me, the ultimate comic book so I voted for that.
Thinking about it though, had it been up there, I would have indeed voted for Avengers Forever. So thakfully, for JLA/Avengers sake, it wasn't up there.

I feel that way about the Sentinels issue of Marvels. That note the little mutant girl leaves is hauntingly sad. It's the sort of thing Chris "Stomp My Balls in a Storm Costume" Claremont wishes he could write. That is pretty heartbreaking. That's why I voted for Marvels, even though the other three issues of the series suck ass. And Claremont does aspire to great things, that's true. Unlike, say, Erik Larsen, who just wishes he could write something as good as Todd McFarlane's "Spawn." And who has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Sadly, Claremont will die without even coming close to his goals. Well, it's not that sad. Guys, why not find a common ground and stop doing this? Like your shitty taste in comics? That would be nice.

Something died inside of you when you read that.
And it's not even close to his worst dialogue.

I've read a bunch of them, but I get the sense it was after the main ones, the classic run. I've bought pretty much every one since about 2006. The blaxploitation one. The Doll one. Maybe some others. That was my closest one.

Marvels #2 is probably the only comic that ever got me misty/emotional in my whole life. I voted for Marvels on that issue alone... I can barely remember what else happened in that series.
Otherwise, I'd have voted Conan.

I liked the first issue with a day in the life of Samaritan but largely, it's two things -- I just can't seem to get hooked into the stories because I never seem to get interested in the characters' personalities and number two, the hero gimmicks seem really, really lame -- the Spidey guy who dresses as a clown, the Batman guy who has a priest theme, etc.
I feel it's well crafted stuff but I just can't bring myself to care for some reason.

If you ever decide to give it a chance again, try this: http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=645031It's Samaritan vs his version of Lex Luthor, struggling in an epic conflict.

I liked the aspect that the Confessor was supposed to be a "Batman" type, and wound up revealed to be something else entirely.
And I still remember how my jaw dropped when I got to the reveal in Thunderbolts.
But, still, I voted for Marvels.

Busiek is pretty good at that, extricating the meanings in the superhero genre and displaying it in an emotionally satisfying way. His AC universe is the Anti-Watchmen, not merely in its tone, but in its very concept. It's the other natural fork in the evolution of the Marvel Universe. 'Course, Busiek is prone to meandering, like in the following Steeljacket or The Dark Ages, but when he's on, he's on.
