Heart will release a new studio album titled Fanatic in October.

Guitarist Nancy Wilson revealed the news during an interview on The Eighties Experience radio show with JJ Buchanan on FM 88.5 KSBR in Southern California on Sunday, February 19.

It looks like 2012 will be a big year for the band. A box set and biography are in the works, and the band is booking live dates well into the year. See their tour dates at the band’s official website.

The box set is expected to contain classic songs as well as tracks that weren’t represented on the band’s major label albums.

Heart’s most recent album was Red Velvet Car, which was released in August 2010. Prior to that album’s release, they had only released one album, 2004’s Jupiters Darling, since 1993’s Desire Walks On.

Wow-after all these years, finally the box set is coming. Now, we have to see if it will truly be what we've been hoping for. If it's Sony/Legacy will they represent all of the band's years together? If it's just what they have the rights to, it will only tell part of the story.
I really hope they get it right, but Legacy have become a laughing stock the last few years almost exclusively dealing with nothing but poorly assembled updated versions of comps. I am not sure they will get this right, but I will hope that they do.

I WANT THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS OF THE "MAGAZINE" TRACKS! (Was that clear enough? LOL)

And one day Capitol will re-issue S/T with the original album mixes throughout..

And we'll get all the soundtrack songs and b-sides from ALL eras! I think it was David Baker (who should be thrilled by this news by the way) who compiled a Heart rare tracks list on here somewhere.
No way we get it all, but I'd like to see what we do and don't from his list.

That's all I need, unless there is more Mushroom-era material laying around somewhere.

At one time I had the MFSL. Never figured that one out; If Looks Could Kill (1st track) was HORRIBLY BRIGHT; but the rest of it sounded ok. I got rid of the MFSL because Looks was so bad.

I have the original pulled vinyl edition of Magazine; & for anyone who hasn't heard it............ yes, it is that much better than the official version.

I've mentioned this before, but around ten years ago, a 3 CD box set titled Strange Euphoria was announced. It may have even been in ICE Magazine.

I wonder if they're dusting that off, or if this is something new altogether.

Sony had originally announced the Strange Euphoria box set as an October 2000 release on Epic/Legacy, after which it was pushed back to March 1, 2001, and then replaced on the schedule with the much more modest 2-CD Essential collection that eventually came out in 2002. Even the limited 3-CD version of that compilation, Essential Heart 3.0, which includes the track "Strange Euphoria", probably bears only a passing resemblance to what the box set would have been like.

Librarians -- is there anything they don't know?

Saw the tapes for this at the mastering studio. The engineer working on it is a big fan. Lots of love going into this project. Should be really good when it's finished.

Who is mastering it?

Joe Palmaccio, so it should sound as great as the Essential Heart collection he mastered.

Showgoers at recent Heart concerts have been privy to the first details about ‘Strange Euphoria,’ the forthcoming box set from the group which is set for release on June 5, just in time for the band’s summer touring season.

A flyer handed out after the Heart show in New Kirk, Okla. reveals that the box set will contain 50 tracks featuring a mixture of previously unreleased demos and rarities (including hopefully, the long-desired original versions of the ‘Magazine’ album tracks), live tracks and of course, their “chart-topping hits.”

The four disc set will also include a DVD of the rare 1976 television performance, plus new track-by-track commentary from Ann and Nancy Wilson.

Ann and Nancy announced the release date themselves during an on-stage interview at South by Southwest, and also revealed that their new studio album ‘Fanatic’ will be out on October 2, which will be in the same time period that their memoir will be released.

Longtime Heart associate and collaborator Sue Ennis is clearly, enthused about the box set and shared with fans, “Believe me, it IS too cool! So many unearthed rarities. A goldmine for Heartmongers who really know this band.”

Ennis previously tweeted about the set and said that she was “excited that fans will soon hear some favorite songs that never found a home on the major label records.”

Heart’s summer tour schedule kicks off officially on June 29 in St. Paul, Minn. and will roll through September with additional dates likely in conjunction with the new album.

Yeah, this sounds very, very nice and what fans have been waiting many years for! I assume this is a Sony or Epic Legacy release but I won't put that in until we know for sure.
Hope this news makes fans happy.

For those who haven't heard the original Magazine, Heartless is probably the most different (the chorus has a different melody) & the non-overdubbed blues medley is way superior. Lots of other differences also.

I hope the mastering's decent.

Joe Palmaccio's mastering seldom disappoints.

Hmmm...I don't hear a definite here on the "Magazine" tracks. I'll believe it when I see it. If the "Magazine" tracks are there though, I will buy this box the minute it comes out. I say this not only for the "Magazine" tracks themselves, but also because including the "Magazine" tracks would show that they put some effort into compiling this set. Are you listening record company?

Just my thinking, but I suspect the Magazine tracks are Ann & Nancy's call; they;'re the ones that had the original album pulled.

I'm sorry, my memory is so poor I'd forgotten this was already addressed above. The Heart Essential isn't badly done; I ended up picking it up a couple years back & selling off several of the more spotty (imo) individual Heart albums.

At my age (54) I shouldn't be dealing with significant memory issues yet
