Upon comparing the two, "Sie Liebt Dich" is not in a different key and tempo than the original "She Loves You". I do remember, though, that I was once, long ago, able to take the backing tracks to "Sie Liebt Dich" and "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand" and combine the chorus with one to the verse and bridge of the other and have them flow smoothly, where I could not do so with "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Interesting.

... vari-speed turntable?

This sounds way too close to The Human Centipede for my liking.

Oddly, I just got an email today from Masters Of Cinema regarding their scheduled dvd release of The Human Centipede (which I'd never heard of until today). Apparently British censors (who I didn't know even still existed) are giving MOC trouble with this release. In the email they declined to discuss details, It just stated it was being delayed due to the UK censors being unwilling to issue a "certificate".

Since you brought it up, what's the story?

Thanks! That is pretty disgusting, though from what was written on the thread the sex part seems like the least of the disgust!

BTW, did we just set a new Ice record for going off topic???! :yay:

Who came up with the sequencing for these albums? The end of the second disc of 1967-1970 is particularly jarring... would have worked much better to end on "Let It Be" than "The Long And Winding Road".

Why? Long and Winding followed Let it Be as a single and let's face it, a song about their "long and winding road" is a closing song. Let it Be cold be as well, but looking at the two, combine with the obvious order of the album, it makes absolute sense.

Allen Klein put the albums together, partially in response to the bootleg set Alpha/Omega, which had been sold via television ads the previous year. The track listings for both sets reflects (roughly) the release order for the singles and the non-single album cuts. Let It Be was the last album released (although the title track included on 1967-1970 is the single version, which was released prior to the LP), and "The Long And Winding Road" was the last US single released, so...

Also, knowing Klein, making it the final song of the entire set was almost certainly a dig at McCartney.

McCartney was quite angry about the "over production" of the song done by Phil Spector. Upon hearing an advance copy, he sent an angry letter demanding that it be re-mixed to remove all of the overdubs (specifically the orchestra & choir) before the LP was released. He also cited the track in his 31 December, 1970 lawsuit against the other three Beatles stating that the changes they had made to the song (without his knowledge) curtailed his artistic freedom and amounted to (when combined with his other complaints) "unfair dealings" between himself and the other three.

I am aware of his feelings toward what Spector did, however by time the comp came out Let it Be (the album) and its singles had already been released. I don't see how it would be a shock that two of its singles - two #1 singles no less would be included.

I still like George Martin's comment on the production credit for "Let It Be." He said it should read:

Produced by George Martin
Overproduced by Phil Spector

I'm not saying that was the reason it was included, Even though it wasn't released as a single anywhere but in the US, it did (as you point out) go to #1, so it was going to be on the collection. I'm just saying that putting in the anchor position (which, more often than not, The Beatles had typically reserved for their strongest material) was probably seen by Klein as having the extra-added benefit of being a dig at Paul. :)

I'm not a Spector fan at all in general, but (with the exceptions of Long and Winding Road and Across the Universe) I really like what he did with the Let it Be tracks. I think Spector's mixes of Get Back and Let it Be are far superior to Martin's.

This is the only time I will ever say something nice about Phil Spector: I prefer his version of Let It Be.

I'm with ya, except I dig the 45 mixes for both of those songs. ;) The only tracks I thought he stumbled on were the heavy orchestra/chior laden songs, "Across The Universe", "Let It Be" & "The Long And Winding Road". His work on "Two Of Us" is sterling, and his editing of "I Me Mine" was exceptional, IMO.

Regarding The Long and Winding road: I remember when I first heard that McCartney was remaking it for the Broad Street soundtrack. Though I didn't like the idea of remakes, I thought perhaps in this case we'd finally get to hear what McCartney's original intent was for the song. Instead, after years of complaining about what Spector did, he created a version that was even schmaltzier than Spector's.

His decision to include the second guitar solo on Let it Be gives him the easy win for me. The Martin version just sounds empty without that amazing solo.
