9. Herman’s Hermits – A Must To Avoid, peaked at #5 in Jan 66, 4 wks in the Top 10. Perhaps their best ever record, and musically the most interesting, love the chord changes…

Here’s a live one in b&w:

and a colour mime one from a movie, w/go-go dancers:

Bonus video: The Hollies – If I Needed Someone, peaked at #20 in Jan 66. Love the Hollies, and love this Beatles song, but there's something about this cover version that just doesn't do it for me. It sounds too loud, distorted, rushed, whatever...

bonus video: The Searchers – Take Me For What I’m Worth, peaked at #20 in Jan 66. A really good tune, why wasn't it more successful?

6. Cilla Black – Love’s Just A Broken, peaked at #2 in Feb 66, 5 wks in the Top 10.
That riff always reminded me of the Doctor Who theme. Here's the studio version:

a live version from 2 years later, too fast...

Bonus Video: Otis Redding – My Girl, peaked at #11 in Jan 66. The Temptations’ original stiffed on the charts, Otis’ grittier version won out…

Bonus video, bonus video: David & Jonathan – Michelle, peaked at #12 in Jan 66.

Even though their version was more faithful to the Beatles' arrangement, they lost the head to head battle with the Overlanders who hit #1.

Couldn't find a good live version, ugh, so here's a mime. One of the most memorable bass lines at the end...
