Murphy should do it in his Nutty Professor costume.

Billy Crystal replaces Eddie Murphy as host of Academy Awards ending backstage drama Comedian and producer Ratner shamed out of ceremony after gay slur BY Richard Huff NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Thursday, November 10 2011, 5:55 PM Billy Crystal will replace Eddie Murphy as host of the Oscars, the Academy confirmed Thursday. Crystal, widely considered the best host of the last decade, maybe longer, was called in to fill the slot left vacant when Murphy followed his producing partner Brett Ratner out the door. “Some of the best moments of my career have happened on the Oscar stage,” Crystal said in a statement. “I am thrilled to be back there. Actually, I am doing this so that the young woman in my pharmacy will stop asking me my name when I pick up my perscriptions.” The way in for Crystal came after Ratner was shamed out of the show following his use of a gay slur in a talk about his latest flick, “Tower Heist.” Murphy, who worked with Ratner on “Tower Heist,” bailed out Wednesday, saying he understood both sides of the issue between Ratner and the Acadamy, though he’d lost his creative counterpart. The Oscarcast will be Crystal’s ninth time at the helm. He last hosted in 2004. The actor and comic has been the yardstick from which everyone is measured when they host the Academy Awards, which is typically the most-watched non sporting event of every year. For Oscar followers, Crystal’s return is good news. “He's been much missed by Oscar fans since he last hosted the show in 2004,” said Tom O’Neil said, who runs Goldderby.com, an awards website. The ceremony is set for February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre. ABC will air the show live.

I've actually seen three of the movies nominated for best picture this year....probably my highest total in over 15 years.......Midnight In Paris, The Artist, and Moneyball. There's no way Moneyball should be a best of the year...it was only pretty good. I loved Midnight In Paris, but I don't know if they'll give Woody any more awards. It would be my vote for the best of the year. The Artist was great too.....why wasn't the dog nominated for supporting actor (or actress......not sure what it is) I wouldnt know if any of the other 6 were big money-making blockbusters who would be favored to win.

Wow, I haven't seen any of the movies at all, even ones nominated just for actors, except Dragon Tattoo.

I've seen all the Best Picture nominees. I'm rooting for Midnight in Paris , although the only one I didn't like at all was Extremely Loud . The Descendants is overrated, it's really an overachieving Hallmark movie. Tough to predict the winner. I've never even heard of two of the Animated Feature nominees, if they even opened in the US I missed it. The other 3 were all very good, I think Rango will win. Tintin got snubbed. No noms for J. Edgar , that's a surprise. The Academy only deemed two songs worthy of nomination. Remember in the 70s and 80s, when the nominated songs were actually hit singles? Gotta go to "Man or Muppet" this year.

Melissa McCarthy. Wow. I like that. A shame that there's no category for Andy Serkis.

I'm glad it's not just me. (Except I have not seen Dragon Tattoo either.)

I've only seen Kung Fu Panda 2 which was awesome. That's it. I only want to see maybe 3 or 4 of the nominated films. I truly despise the Oscars and hate the show. I won't watch it again and I won't care again.

Didn't think Moneyball was good enough to be considered. Hugo gets the most noms but hardly anybody saw it. It all looks pretty even to me, no clear winner.
Another off year and another potential snoozefest at the Oscars.
If War Horse wins does Joey show up? You know the dog will show up if The Artist wins.

No Albert Brooks. Which makes me wonder about Jonah Hill being in there.

Hugo is definitely worth seeing. It's spellbinding. And I saw it in 2D, so 3D is definitely not necessary.

Andy Serkis was nominated for Supporting Actor for
Rise of the Planet of the Apes at the Critic's Choice Awards a couple weeks ago. His performance was worthy of an Oscar nom.
