...who could be the "new Indy"? Who would you get to direct it?

Also, if there are other franchises you'd like to "James Bond", feel free to throw them in too.

I'd go with Peter Jackson (based on the King Kong film) and Matthew Fox as Indy.

I almost went with Josh Holloway as my pick, but he's really not a very good actor.

Let's just put Daniel Craig in both franchises. Thanks.

I like Craig but he seems a little too "bad ass" to be Indy. Indy's got this "everyman" quality to him that Craig sorta doesn't -- Craig seems like a superman a la Doc Savage or whatever.

No way I'd start it up with a guy his age (although yes, he'd be great for the part). I'd want to get several movies out of the same actor before it became unbelievable. So the actor would need to be early 30s, rather than early 40s, for me.

What about Chris Pine? Is he too douche-ey? :)

Yeah, he's a little too "Ryan Reynolds" for my tastes.

Indy needs to be just between the rugged masculinity of Daniel Craig and the goofiness of a Ryan Reynolds... funny enough to make you laugh but tough enough to convince you he can actually kick ass.

This is one reason Harrison Ford was so absolutely perfect for the role.

(And many roles -- he's a unique actor).

I think the qualities you describe fit Captain America guy if he gets a little bit more of an aged look on him. Chris whatshisname.

Harrison Ford was 39 the first time he played Indiana Jones.

I agree but I just don't "see" Indy when I look at him.

Can Gerard Butler do a convincing American accent? He might be good. Joe Johnston could direct (I think he actually did some work in the original films and does period pieces well).

Yes, and it showed by the third film. (to say nothing of the fourth one! ) As a role created for, and played by, only one actor, it's one thing; if you're working on a franchise, it's another. I didn't mind Ford being old, because he IS Indy.

Roger Moore was playing a way, way too old James Bond for about 5 movies too. If we're reimagining Indy as a franchise with multiple actors playing the lead, why make the same mistakes?

As he's a college professor, I think looking a little older is good for the character. Ford's age in Last Crusade didn't bother me at all -- he gets by on pure two-fisted toughness instead of athleticism and agility.

College profs don't have to be old. :) Again, all I'm saying is that starting with a 43 year old guy means you're starting over again that much sooner. Jackman would be great in the role.

I'd be happy with him.

James Hanson as Indy. The right age, the rugged charm. It's all right there.
