I see more fans calling them the "Mess" over at MetsBlog than "Amazin's" or "Metsies" (which is what we call them when we love them). It's really sad, but I completely agree.

Quote: Mets not looking to add a free-agent catcher
The Mets have decided not to sign a right-handed hitting, free-agent catcher, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Instead, they plan to handle the position internally, and use the money that might be devoted to catcher to help improve the pitching staff.
In addition, a team insider told Rubin that the organization has yet to decide if they will non-tender Ronny Paulino at the Dec. 12 deadline.
Last night, Jon Heyman of SI.com said the Mets had been looking for a catcher this winter from outside the organization. http://www.metsblog.com/2011/12/06/mets ... t-catcher/Now Wilpon can't afford a second-string catcher.

No bat boys this season....players must pick up their own bats and tidy the dugout.

Being that this is the Mets...players may no longer use the team Clorox to spray at reporters, and the team will no longer provide condoms to pitchers who masturbate in the bullpen. On the plus side--if a player is able to successfully toss an M-80 at a groupd of fans before it explodes, the Mets have an opening at shortstop.

Quote: Mets agree to terms with Jon Rauch
According to Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio, the Mets have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with RHP Jon Rauch.
Duquette says the deal is pending a physical.
Even though the Mets have signed Rauch, Andy Martino of the Daily News expects the Mets to sign one more relief pitcher.
Rauch went 5-4 with a 4.85 ERA in 53 games for the Blue Jays in 2011. He allowed 11 home runs, 14 walks and 56 hits in 52 innings. http://www.metsblog.com/2011/12/06/mets ... jon-rauch/Watch out, Phillies!

Linda, the Mets just traded Angel Pagan to the San Francisco Giants for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez.

And now they've signed the unstable Frank Francisco as their closer. A bunch of bargain basement moves tonight, really.

I liked Pagan. So thats two big name losses for the Mets from last season (Reyes and now Pagan). Who will play CF?

Torres is a good player when healthy, but he is 33, not somebody you build around. Rauch and Francisco, good not great.

Torres can play centre, but they don't have a legitimate leadoff hitter now, and their speed is almost non-existent. With Reyes and Pagan both gone, it will be a miracle if a Met has more than 10 stolen bases this season.
Funniest thing in this debacle is seeing article after article at Mets.com where Terry Collins is talking about Pagan as his new go-to guy for getting on base and making the opposing pitchers nervous now that Reyes is gone. Does upper management just not tell Collins their plans?

The Yanks have been uncharacteristically quiet on the trade/free agent front so far. Looks like we're going with the same roster as 2011.

The big question this season is if the Mets will be able to finish within 20 games of 4th place.

It really is 1962 all over again. The new Mets logo will be "getting back to our roots "!!

Today's NY Post reports that the Yanks are trying to move A.J. Burnett, even willing to throw in $8 million towards his 2012 salary. No takers yet.
