Bryan Singer has been wanting to make his own Battlestar Galactica for a good while now. A decade ago, he was planning for it to be a TV show, though this was stymied by 9/11 then superseded by Ronald D. Moore‘s popular do-over.
A couple of years back, it became clear that he was still working on the dream, this time brewing up a feature film version.
And now he’s got his writer and it’s John Orloff, the man who wrote Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous. Singer apparently saw that film and liked it. I know – I was at least as surprised as you are to read that.
There’s not a huge amount of info on Singer and Orloff’s Battlestar plans out there just yet, though the writer was caught by HitFix on his way around the Anonymous mulberry bush. Here’s the salient part of what he told them:

I’m a huge fan of the original series and of the second show, too. But I always thought the first show was a little too heavily reliant on Star Wars, you know? Whereas I think the second show was really original and really cool.
And I think I’ve come up with a way to write this movie that won’t fuck any of that up. I’m not sure how much they want me to talk about it. Let’s just say it’s not what you expect. It will all work in the universe that exists. It will not conflict with anything Ron Moore has done.
