Product Description
From our master singer-songwriter, Leonard Cohen, here are ten new songs that mine the heart, shake the body and break the boundaries as everybody knows only Leonard can do. A signature of our time, Leonard's baritone holds us like the voices of Hank, Frank and Ray. These are songs that nobody knows and everyone will treasure.

Fans were given a hint of what to expect when Cohen made remarks as the recipient of the Principe de Asturias Prize for literature in Spain in October 2011.

"As I grew older, I understood that instructions came with this voice. And the instructions were these...Never to lament casually. And if one is to express the great inevitable defeat that awaits us all, it must be done within the strict confines of dignity & beauty."

The album was produced with Patrick Leonard, Anjani Thomas, Ed Sanders and Dino Soldo. Complementing Cohen's signature baritone on Old Ideas are the exceptional vocalists Dana Glover, Sharon Robinson, The Webb Sisters (Hattie and Charley Webb) and Jennifer Warnes. The album's cover design and drawings are Cohen's own.

1. Going Home
2. Amen
3. Show Me The Place
4. The Darkness
5. Anyhow
6. Crazy To Love You
7. Come Healing
8. Banjo
9. Lullaby
10. Different Sides

Leonard Cohen working on new album with his son

Leonard Cohen is currently working on his first studio album in seven years, his son Adam Cohen has revealed.

Adam, who released his own LP 'Like A Man' earlier this year, confirmed that he had been working with his father in a "consultant capacity" and that the Canadian singer-songwriter could release his first record since 2004's 'Dear Heather' later this year.

Although Cohen's label Sony have claimed that they have no details regarding a forthcoming album, Adam told BBC News that he had been joining his father in the studio. He said:

Quote:
I was asked in some consultant capacity on a few occasions and I'm very happy to listen to what's being created and be asked for my opinions.

He dismissed the idea of a collaboration between him and the 'Hallelujah' legend, however, adding: "I would love to make music with my father and I have in a private way, but as for a public way he really doesn't need my help or contribution. There's something beautiful about not doing it just gratuitously."

Earlier this year, Leonard Cohen was awarded Spain's esteemed Prince Of Asturias Award for literature, joining previous winners of the prestigious prize such as the playwright Arthur Miller and naturalist Sir David Attenborough.

Leonard Cohen names new album 'Old Ideas'

Leonard Cohen has revealed that his forthcoming new album will be entitled ‘Old Ideas’.

Set for release next year, the album will be the iconic singer-songwriter’s first studio album since 2004’s ‘Dear Heather’.

The album will be made up of ten previously unreleased songs, reports Twentyfourbit.com. “I’ve played it for a few people, and they seem to like it,” says Cohen of the record.

Earlier this month Cohen’s son Adam, who released his own LP 'Like A Man' earlier this year, confirmed that was working with his father in a "consultant capacity" on the album. Adam told BBC News that he had been joining his father in the studio. He said: "I was asked in some consultant capacity on a few occasions and I'm very happy to listen to what's being created and be asked for my opinions."

He dismissed the idea of a collaboration between him and the 'Hallelujah' legend, however, adding: "I would love to make music with my father and I have in a private way, but as for a public way he really doesn't need my help or contribution. Now that I've purchased and listened to the "Complete Studio Albums Collection" box set, this can be the first "new" Leonard Cohen album I can buy when it's released. Looking forward to it. Curious to hear Patrick Leonard's contribution. I wonder if it'll sound like a new Toy Matinee album.

Leonard Cohen to Jarvis Cocker: 'I've always felt I was scraping the bottom of the barrel'

Leonard Cohen discussed his 12th studio album, 'Old Ideas', tonight (January 18) in London, with Pulp's Jarvis Cocker ahead of the album's release on January 30.

In conversation with the Pulp frontman at The May Fair Hotel, Cohen stated of his songwriting: "I never had a strategy, I always felt I was kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel just trying to get a song together... I never had the sense that I was standing in front of a buffet table, with a multitude of choices."

He continued, to laughs from the crowd: "There are people who work from a sense of great abundance, and I'd love to be one of them, but I’m not."

Jarvis Cocker then asked Cohen about his distinctive vocal style which he said, "seems to be getting even deeper", to which Cohen responded: "It's what happens when you give up cigarettes, contrary to public opinion… I thought my voice would rise a soprano… it's not going that direction." Later Cohen, who is 77, said: "I'll start smoking again when I'm 80, I'm looking forward to that."

When asked by Cocker how 'old' the ideas on 'Old Ideas' were, Cohen jokingly responded "about 2614 years old – some of them a little older, some fresher." Cocker then inquired about Cohen's songwriting notebooks and if he was scared of losing them, to which he said: "I live in deep fear of losing a notebook. I've lost a lot of them – there were some masterpieces."

'Old Ideas' is the legendary singer songwriter's first new offering since 2004's 'Dear Heather', and his 12th studio album since 1967. The album was produced by Patrick Leonard, Anjani Thomas, Ed Sanders and Dino Soldo and features backing vocals from Dana Glover, Sharon Robinson, The Webb Sisters and longtime Cohen collaborator Jennifer Warnes.
