James Cameron promises 'more intimate' 3D 'Titanic'

James Cameron has vowed that the forthcoming 3D version of Titanic will be "more intimate". In what might be taken as an unusual statement for a bigger-scale version of his blockbuster, the director has said that the re-release of the film will bring cinema-goers closer to the action.

He told MTV News: "I think the film holds up pretty damn well. In 3D, it becomes kind of a new experience. It’s a much more intimate and involving experience both with the characters and with the physical space."

Cameron added that audiences will not be disappointed by any re-edits. He said:

Quote:
We're not changing a frame. The ship still sinks. It ends the same way.

Titanic is the next cinema classic to get an immersive re-release, following the box office success of The Lion King. The 1998 movie, which starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, sails again on April 6, 2012, marking the 100th anniversary of the ship's doomed voyage.

I might see this but I'd walk in an hour into the movie.

I'm only worried about getting buggered by things I can see, like an iceberg.

I know it's an unpopular opinion here, but I really liked Titanic. It was mind-blowingly well done and more than met all my expectations. It triggered an interest in the actual Titanic that still comes to life now and again in me. The love story part was fine and created necessary human interest in what could otherwise have been an elaborate expensive docudrama. The only reason I haven't watched it more than twice is because it's quite long and there are too many other things I've never seen yet crying for my attention.

That all said, I think I will see the 3D re-release, if my GF is up for such a long film.

3-D movies hold no attraction for me. And viewing Titanic once in a lifetime is plenty- I couldn't believe how draining it was to watch all of that death and destruction.

Although not as powerful or distressing, it lends itself to repeat viewings about as well as Schindler's List, I suppose. :)
