Someone over at the other forum mentioned the Monkees facebook page had a posting that an Instant Replay deluxe 3 CD box set was now being shown on the Rhino website. Someone visited the Rhino page and saw the track listing, took a screen shot of it (posted it at the other forum), then it was taken down at Rhino as it wasn't working properly (audio link trouble).
There was other speculation based on what tracks were and were not included on the Instant Replay box that a Monkees Present deluxe or box might be forth coming someday. Interesting...

Thx for posting; I've been waiting for this one, and am glad to see its release (sort of) confirmed.

Never having this album in any format therefore I looked up this up on Wikipedia. I decided to post what I read here for others who may not know about this release. (I didn't know Peter Tork had already left the group, wow) Reading that some of thse tracks are from the archives does provide even more interest for me.
Rick A.
Instant Replay is the seventh studio album by The Monkees. Issued almost a year after the cancellation of the group's NBC television series, it is also the first album released after Peter Tork left the group and the only album of the original nine studio albums that does not include any songs featured in the TV show from the original NBC run nor the CBS/ABC reruns.
History: Although the Monkees had recorded dozens of tracks between the time of their last "studio" album, spring 1968's The Birds, The Bees & the Monkees (a soundtrack LP from their film Head had been released between the two studio LPs), several of the songs on Instant Replay actually dated from sessions up to two and a half years earlier.
The band's new music supervisor, Brendan Cahill, believed that releasing previously unused tracks recorded in 1966—prior to the group's seizing control of their own recording process—was the way for the group to get back to the top. The album's lead single, "Tear Drop City," was one of the songs taken from the vault. The song was sped up around 9% from the original recording, changing the song's key from G to A-flat. The single, notably similar to the group's first hit "Last Train to Clarksville" was identified by Mike Nesmith as their intended first single back in 1966. The track was not a major hit, only managing to reach #56 on the US charts, while reaching #34 in Australia. Despite the single's poor chart performance, the album itself reached the top 40 at #32.
Micky Dolenz's "Just a Game" had originally been written during the sessions of the Headquarters album, while Nesmith's "Don't Wait for Me" was the first released product of his 1968 sessions with Nashville studio musicians. Davy Jones' "You and I," with its lyrics bemoaning the fickle pace of teen stardom, featured guitar work from Neil Young.
Production notes: Two of the tracks, "Someday Man" and "A Man Without a Dream", were produced by Bones Howe and recorded at Wally Heider's Studio. Howe brought in Wrecking Crew musicians including Tommy Tedesco (guitar), Joe Osborn (bass) and Hal Blaine (drums) and a nine-piece horn section.
Original album track listing Side 1 "Through the Looking Glass" (Red Baldwin/Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart) "Don't Listen to Linda" (Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart) "I Won't Be the Same Without Her" (Gerry Goffin/Carole King) "Just a Game" (Micky Dolenz) "Me Without You" (Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart) "Don't Wait for Me" (Michael Nesmith) Side 2 "You and I" (Bill Chadwick/David Jones) "While I Cry" (Michael Nesmith) "Tear Drop City" (Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart) "The Girl I Left Behind Me" (Carole Bayer Sager/Neil Sedaka) "A Man Without a Dream" (Gerry Goffin/Carole King) "Shorty Blackwell" (Micky Dolenz)
1995 Rhino reissue CD bonus tracks"Someday Man" (Roger Nichols/Paul Williams) "Carlisle Wheeling" (Previously Unissued Alternate Version) (Michael Nesmith) "Rosemarie" (Previously Unissued Early Version) (Micky Dolenz) "Smile" (Previously Unissued) (David Jones) "St. Matthew" (Previously Unissued Alternate Mix) (Michael Nesmith) "Me Without You" (Previously Unissued Alternate Mix) "Through the Looking Glass" (Previously Unissued Alternate Mix)

OK. If there's Peter-era stuff on there (or even better, stuff he played on) I can see why this would be interesting. But do Monkeemaniacs really hold this album (or Present, or Changes) in the same regard as the first five?

I'm one of those cynical Monkees fans--I'll shell out for the Rhino Handmade boxes, but can't stand the old TV show. I find the presence of Tork (or lack thereof) irrelevant, but some of Nesmith's more interesting stuff was on "Instant Replay" and "The Monkees Present." IIRC, some Tork-era stuff even showed up on "Changes"--the Monkees apparently tended to leave tons of stuff in the vault. I'd wager that the Monkees organization churned out more musical product in four years than, say for example, the Rolling Stones have in the past quarter-century.

If the track listing is correct, it sounds like they found some actual 33 & 1/3 stuff.
But beyond that, more mono, backing tracks, and "alternate" mixes. I'm not sold on it (yet) until I see what's really unique to this system (some unreleased song backing tracks sound interesting, but there's only a couple listed...)
When I used to make tapes of Monkees stuff, the only song I ever pulled off this album was "I Won't Be The Same Without Her". The stuff from this period that ended up on Missing Links 2 (St. Matthew and If I Ever Get To Saginaw Again) were far, far better songs and it always amazed me that they didn't get a release in the 60s

This is great!
This and Changes are the only albums by The Monkees that I've never owned. I didn't think it was worth it. But put it in a box with 2 discs of bonus tracks I will only ever listen to once and I HAVE to have it. And if they ever get around to Present and Changes I'm sure I'll buy those as well to complete the set. While I'm fairly indifferent to this stage of The Monkees career, I can hardly wait to have this in my hot little hands.
Thanks for the wonderful news.
Vince

According to The Monkees Live Almanac site, Andrew Sandoval has tweeted that the Instant Replay box will be released on 11-22-11.
And Rhino's October email is hinting "Coming soon... ...and then there were three..." showing a pic of Davy Mike & Mickey.

Are you charged for the box when you preorder, or do they wait until it's been shipped?

From my experience, they pre-authorize the charge at the time of ordering but do not charge until shipment.

Somewhere I have a CD-R with the audio from the "33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee" special. While I understand that the master tapes for the music from the special were lost, can anybody figure out if all or just some of the music from that special will be in this set? I know that "California Here It Comes" showed up in the "Head" boxed set...

I'll probably get this and the Smile Sessions box set next month. And that'll be it for me - I can't afford anything else.

According to the Rhino Handmade webpage, the release date for this has apparently been pushed back to 11/29.
