I was just reading yesterdays (Wednesday October 5th) Newsday (a Long Island newspaper) and they had an article about Blue Oyster Cult in the entertainment section . It said that there will be a BOC boxset released in early 2012 . It said it will contain all of their Sony cd's and 2 discs of unreleased recordings .I really can't see it being all of there cd's in one boxset , that would be pricey . Unless it's bare bones like the Original Album Classic releases . Has anyone heard anything about this ?

Blue Oyster Cult would be a prime candidate for a Complete Album Collection release.

Really would be torn on this one. I have all the original CD issues and have been thinking about the remasters for quite awhile. But I don't know if I'd be interested in what sounds like pretty bare-bones packaging for the Complete Album Collection series. I think I would personally prefer to pay the extra money and buy the individual releases. Another thing is that the last reissue of Some Enchanted Evening comes with a DVD, and I doubt that would be included in a Complete Album Collection set. Anybody know if they've thrown a DVD in any of the Complete Album Collection sets before?

Would have to be a pile of CDs to cover the Columbia era:
1. Blue Oyster Cult
2. Tyranny and Mutation
3. Secret Treaties
4. On Your Feet or on Your Knees
5. Agents of Fortune
6. Spectres
7. Some Enchanted Evening
8. Mirrors
9. Cultosaurus Erectus
10. Fire of Unknown Origin
11. Extraterrestrial Live
12. The Revolution by Night
13. Club Ninja
14. Imaginos
15 & 16. Bonus Discs

Unless I forgot a release that would make it a 16 disc set. Looking at Pop Market's listing and I would guess a retail of $150 with a discount price of $130 (and cheaper if it makes it's way to Amazon).

This band, along with The Outlaws, Heart and Psychedelic Furs is one of the ones I've beenw aiting for the whole catalogue for to be properly handled for an eternity.
The first batch Sony/Legacy did was:
Blue Oyster Cult
Tyranny And Mutation
Secret Treaties
Agents Of Fortune

then we got:
Spectres
Some Enchanted Evening (w/ DVD)

from American Beat we got (and not remasetred, but reissued, but nicely packaged with good sound):
Club Ninja
Imaginos

That leaves these Sony/Legacy have not done:
On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
Mirrors
Cultosaurus Erectus
The Fire Of Unknown Origin
Extraterrestrial Live
The Revolution By Night

and possibly
Club Ninja
Imaginos

I hope it's not like these Classic Albums Series which I find lackluster and not worthy of purchase. Seeing as I have everything remastered or reissued there's still enough albums for me to need a box like this-only if the albums were at least remastered. Any hopes of bonus cuts for the other albums seems highly unlikely.
I'd probably get this one because of that reason.
As for the 2 CDs of rare tracks, I'm curious there and that could also get me to bite.
Next year is the 40th (!) anniversary of the debut album, so this does make sense.

I'd snap up a 2-CD rarities set, but I'm not sure I want to buy all the albums again, especially if they're just gonna stuff the present editions into a cardboard box.

WOW, I looking forward to seeing what's in this box. With that many unreleased tracks and new remastering sign me up!

Not a word about this at the band's official site or through the Yahoo mail list (both run by the World Famous Melne!), so I'm a bit skeptical.

There's definitely enough unreleased material to make up a couple of discs - Bolle has a huge library at the "Museum of Cult" and Buck has already released 4 CDs worth of stuff on his own.

I'd be interested in the 2 cd rarities, & a remaster of on Your Feet if the supposedly lost master tapes &/or multi tracks could be found.

I'm pretty sure Bolle doesn't have his museum anymore, I think he passed it on to another (good) guy.

I may go and see them tomorrow night on LI at a new venue called The Paramount if we get off from work on time.

Just wondering if one of the bonus discs would be the same Stalk-Forrest Group CD that was issued by Rhino Handmade? I know Don's original post said "unreleased recordings," but the Stalk-Forrest Group stuff is probably rare enough to have that term applied even if it's not accurate.

A large part of the Rhino handmade (missing the 9 bonus tracks) was also released in the UK on the Radioactive label.

Who owns Rhino now? I know the original Stalk-Forrest tapes were owned by Elektra, so unless Sony owns them now I'd be surprised to see that stuff in any sort of box.

Buck's mentioned a few times that they owed Columbia a lot of money, so I'm sure Sony is going to milk the catalog for all it's worth if they think there's something they can squeeze some more money out of the fans. Personally, I used to be a completist, but I stopped after the 3rd or fourth compilation. I've already bought the first two albums at least 3 times on CD alone (original issue, MFSL Gold disc and Remasters).

Never considered that the Stalk-Forrest stuff was a Rhino/WEA (or whatever the heck WEA is these days) release and a Complete Album Collection would be a Sony release. Stupid mistake on my part.

I just hope they could find some better rarities than more live stuff. With On Your Feet or on Your Knees, Some Enchanted Evening (expanded) and Extraterrestrial Live there will be more than enough live material included in the set (assuming that they do include the live releases, which is probable since Two For the Show was included in the Kansas set).

We now have a release date for "The Complete Columbia Albums Collection" which is due on October 23! So, we can now change the heading.
I cannot wait-even if it's just reissuing the previous remasters and giving new remasters w/ no bonus. I hope the rare discs are included but would not be shocked if they weren't.
Here's the link:

I'm sure PopMarket will have a lower price at some point.

Very excited about this, since I have most of their output either on vinyl or digital copies of a friend's CDs and now I'll finally have all of the Columbia albums on CD. As long as the price comes down to a reasonable level (which has happened with most of these sets once they've gone to retail), this is a no-brainer purchase for me.

I hope they include the expanded editions of any CD that had bonus tracks, which Sony did with the Cheap Trick set.

I think I only have six of these albums (plus "Workshop of the Telescopes") and have debated completing the collection, so will definitely be up for this if the price drops to the $100 range or below.
