They're still in Canada. At one time they were also a USA chain. Think BB/CC with a large cd section including lots of imports. Don't know how heavy the Canadian stores are into cd these days, though.
For the last couple years before they shut down, they did amazing huge import sales every weekend. I used to wake up at around 6 am on Saturday, to hit all of the FS shops within around 50 miles in all 4 directions.

just got home from a borders run.
if nobody buys CD's anymore, why don't they any left? (well very few anyway)
i did get the jimmy webb "just across the river" CD. w/ guests jackson browne, lucinda williams, j.d. souther, linda ronstadt and others. for $7.20.
also bought the book, "life" by keith richards. $9.00 can't wait to sit down and get into it, i've read that it is quite a read.

Apparently (per dvd talk forum) some of the East Coast stores are closing tomorrow & are at 80-90%.
Here in Wa state I s/w 2 stores this morning. Both are @ 70% cd/dvd & 1 said they're closing 9/16. The other said they don't have a date yet.

I went to the Coumbia, MD, Borders last night... it's startling how small the selection is now. I got 2 books and a DVD. It might well be my last trip to Borders ever... I'll miss you, Borders.

I called 3 Borders this morning at 9 am (see 2 posts above).
I also called a 3rd Borders at the same time & got a tape recording (voice mail announcement) of a teenage girl laughing about Borders store hours!
Discovered on another forum about 1 pm that store was closing today & EVERYTHING was $1.
Grr. I've been up all night & am exhausted. If they had bothered to answer there phone at 9 am rather then with a recording, I would have driven up there (It is a good 30 miles from here & I've been too tired to drive safely since about noon).

My last trip, at the 70-80% markdown point, was completely fruitless. I'd come away with a smattering of good deals from the bargain shelves my other two trips, but I didn't see anything that grabbed me, other than a "I should buy something, since I'm here" way. So I didn't buy anything.

Shelby and I went there yesterday and I got the 5th Scalped trade for about $4.50 (still need to buy the 4th). Waited in line behind the douchiest of douchebags at the checkout.

I saw on the news today that the company that's doing Borders liquidation is donating 8,000 books to the Chicago public schools.

Went to Puyallup & Redmond Wa today. There was basically NOTHING left at Puyallup. I then went to to Redmond, where they had about 100 cd's, (I bought 5), 10 dvd's & a lot of books.
I also think I found out why this wave was different at least in my state:
As I may have posted before, during the last wave the Tacoma Wa store still had 100's of cd's (mostly high end classical & quality indie) left at 90% off; both these stores were cleaned out at 80. Redmond told me that a few days ago, some B&M cd chain from Denver flew in & cleaned all the stores out. I was told they spent $2500 at Redmond alone (@ 70%). I would ASSUME they hit other states as well.

Quote: Borders selling over 60,000 IP addresses
Borders, the retail book seller that went bankrupt earlier this year, is trying to sell off its remaining assets. One of them is a large batch of IP addresses it currently controls. The Register reports that according to a New York bankruptcy court filing. Borders plans to sell 65,536 IPv4 addresses to healthcare software vendor Cerner. The asking price is $12 per address which would make the final total to be $786,432.
The story says that the company in charge of selling the IP addresses, StreamBank, was contacted by thousands of potential bidders. They included companies that you would expect would want control of such a large batch of IP addresses, including domain name registries and Internet service providers. In the end, Cerner came up with the highest bid. The deal is not yet official.
The filing said that ARIN, the regional IP address registry for North America, has to consent to the transfer. The heading to approve the sale is expected to happen in court on December 20.
While this kind of deal is unusual, it is not unique. Earlier this year Microsoft spent a whopping $7.5 million in order to obtain control of 666,624 IPv4 addresses from bankrupt telecommunications company Nortel.
With IPv4 addresses now subject to dwindling supplies as companies slowly transition over to IPv6, these kind of IP address deals could become more commonplace in the months ahead. http://www.neowin.net/news/borders-sell ... -addresses

Books A Million (BAM!) took over my local Borders, so once again, I have a local bookstore to peruse stuff and read for free. They even have a vinyl LP section!
