Quote: It's Official: Fox Renews House For Season 8
The doctors are in… some of them at least.
After lengthy talks, Fox has closed a deal with producer Universal to bring House back for an eighth and likely final season.
“Over the past seven seasons, House has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” said Fox president Kevin Reilly in a statement. “From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the House team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”
Curiously, Fox’s press release doesn’t mention which castmembers will be returning for season 8. As Deadline first reported Monday night, Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps have inked new deals, but it’s unclear where things stand with Lisa Edelstein and Jesse Spencer. Hugh Laurie, Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson were already under contract for an eighth season. http://www.tvline.com/2011/05/its-offic ... r-season-8

I read in the EW "Fall TV Preview" issue that Lisa Edelstein is out.

According to the trailer, Season 8 starts off with House having in prison for a year. Serves him right. He was the ultimate dick at the end of last year. I had decided to drop the show until I heard that he'll be getting his ass kicking regularly in prison. I think they're staying honest about consequences so I'm still in. As for on screen closure, I'm usually all in favor of it but in this case, Cuddy's last words to the police pretty much said it all. I'm good. The guy who's going to be out in the cold is Wilson. His only purpose was to be House's foil and best friend. What the heck's he going to do now? unless he took over Cuddy's job. I'd also think his friendship would be irrevocably busted up now after the crash, too. If he still forgives House, he's a sap.

Wow, I hadn't heard about him doing time, but agree that he deserved it. I wonder if he'll have his medical license revoked like Thirteen did? That'd certainly change the dynamic of how he interacts with his team, if he were merely an unofficial consultant and not in a position to order them around or commandeer and operating room and whatnot.

They've got the official trailer out there, I'm assuming he'll be getting out of jail pretty quick since he's already been in a year but it's about the only way they could have gotten me back this year. I've always loved the show and the character so kudos on giving him the lumps he deserves.

I guess I shouldn't read a House season 8 thread and not expect spoilers from the current season. I'm still going to add a warning to the topic title though.

Ah! Sorry about that. The trailer and ads are out there so I didn't think anything of it.

Quote: Producers confirm that 'House' will end this year
House, the US medical drama which starred British actor Hugh Laurie as grumpy doctor Dr. Gregory House, will end later this year, its producers have confirmed. The show debuted in 2004 and will have run for eight series when it ends later this year. It has been screened in over 60 countries during its run.
The producers of the show have issued a statement, which reads as follows: "After much deliberation, the producers of House MD have decided that this season of the show, the 8th, should be the last. By April this year they will have completed 177 episodes, which is about 175 more than anyone expected back in 2004."
The statement also said that the decision to end the show had been taken to preserve the enigma of the show's lead character and that they hope the show ends with "some promise and mystique in the air".
It said of Dr. House: "He should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air."
Hugh Laurie's starring role in House has made him one of the highest earning British actors in the world, with the actor pockering a reported fee of $400,000 for each episode he starred in.
The show has also starred Tron:Legacy actress Olivia Wilde, Omar Epps, Lisa Edelstein and Robert Sean Leonard at various times during its eight-year run. http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/produ ... ear/259725

This frees up Laurie for taking over the lead role in Doctor who when Matt smith leaves in 2014.
That is just wishful thinking but there you go. I just think he'd make an excellent Doctor when Smith eventually does leave.

I think he's too old for NuWho. It's a long production and lots of running about. I doubt we'll see anyone older than early 40s again.
Besides, Laurie has said he wants to concentrate on movies.

Nah, he's fit and I think he'd love to ditch the cane and run around some corridors. I don't think people would think of him as that much older than Eccleston and he's very high visibility and has incredible range. He can do movie around DW shooting anyway. And really, you have to vary the age a bit with the character, otherwise, the next step is a 17 year old Doctor, then a toddler.....

now THAT'S true......we pay a lot better over here. But I'm trying to remember if Moffat doesn't have some prior connection working with Laurie. I do know that he desperately wants to be back in the UK with his family full time and it was very very depressing for him to be away so much filming House. So even a cut in pay might not be a big deal. Plus, he could probably live forever on the residuals from the 8 seasons of House.

I too would like to see him as the Doctor.
I will miss the show, but I would rather it eneded while it was still good, rather than the network trying to milk it past its prime

True! Fox kept milking X-files way beyond its expiration date.

I think this may be the most recent House thread so if you saw it, what did you think of the finale?
Vague and non spoilerish from me for now.
Loved the people who came back. A certain someone still has amazing legs and another someone gets better with age. Totally forgot about him and glad to see him back!
As soon as I saw the _______ I knew that he _____ __
Not a single tear shed and then I saw that picture on the screen and the floodgates opened.
Sad to see House go while at the same time knowing it was the right time to end the series.

Big thumbs down from me. So much outrageous stuff from him in the past, I thought it would have been better to end it 10 minutes earlier, if you know what I mean.

I wonder why Wilson felt House would go to jail for years and never be a doctor again. It's not like he burned the place down. Sure, he has some jail time coming, but afterwards, why would they keep him from being a doctor? Mind you, proving he's legally alive may take some doing, but if they want to imprison him, the authorities will have to do that work for him - they can't lock him up if they won't admit he's alive and he's House, after all.
Anyway, I was happy to see that Chase succeeded House.
So, after a multi month road trip up until Wilson gets too sick to travel, then a dismal death for him, I do wonder what will happen later - in general. Foreman knows he's alive, but no one else does, I think. At least House will be around for when 13 needs him, not that she knows that right now, but he'll probably resurrect himself after Wilson passes.
So, do you think he'll actually change? He said he could, but he spent the entire series proving people don't really change and people lie, etc. so I think he'll be a miserable jerk again, where ever he ends up. Maybe he can be happy with his hooker wife - she seems to have gotten over his betrayal, though maybe she just came back to inherit his stuff as his legal wife. If I would have changed anything in the final, I'd have had the wife know, too, and travel with them, or say she'd wait for him. .
