in the next few weeks and upgrading to HD(TV and Blu-Ray). I've asked around and supposedly LED is the better option over LCD & Plasma, I'm not going to 3D TV though, that's just stupid. Obviously I'm going for 1080p, but what else should I consider.

That'll depend on when I get the TV, Blu-Ray and sound...

Keep in mind that 1080p means that you'll see all the pores, blemishes, warts (genital and otherwise), bruises, etc, of all your favorite porn stars.

Get a PS3 for your blu-ray player. By far the best choice, and you can play games on it too if you so desire.

I went hd and big screen a couple of months ago. I can now see the stitching on the dresses on Project Runway. Incredible.

Bannings: One too few . . .
I think the only places you need to shop are Costco and Best Buy (in place of Costco, whatever wholesale club you frequent). They have the best prices when you accurately compare features. The rest is just a giant shell game.

37 to 41 inches is a really sweet zone for pricing. They are unbelievably cheap at that size. You pay a little bit of a premium to make the leap to 50+.

I think Sony and Samsung are good brands, despite what you sometimes hear from the haters.

Jeff is correct about the PS3. It plays Blu-rays, but also does Netflix, Hulu, Sunday Ticket, and games.

I'll be looking at Best Buy first, with a small apartment a 50+ inch TV would definitely be too much.

There are some amazing deals on TVs 42 inches and smaller. Go Sony if you can, they are always very dependable. I second Jeff's PS3 recommendation - you can get Netflix through it, too. And if you really want to splurge, get a Tivo - you'll never miss a show again.

I've been quite happy with my Samsung LN40C650 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV. The LED backlighting option was still pricier back when I bought the TV, but if it's cheaper now it will give you better contrast.

The only thing that annoys me about going High-Def is that Blu-Ray is so much less friendly than DVD, with their annoying bloated menu systems (or whatever the hell takes them so long to load) and the fact that they can't remember where I left off on discs and restart quickly from that point (my old DVD player could remember where I left off on the last 50 discs I'd played -- sometimes I'd pop in a DVD that I had not watched in months and the machine would instantly start it up right where I left off).
