A couple articles around here talked about how the idea of Plax back w/the Steelers was better than the reality would have been. The Steelers are apparently pretty tight to the cap, and need a few moves to get under, and signing Plax would have made it worse. Personally, I'm not feeling too worked up about any of it - my kind of blah attitude about football hasn't improved since last year, so I expect my Sundays to be more about refereeing soccer than watching NFL games.
I expect the police at my door any day now...

The Steelers remain the Jets #1 nemesis. They can beat NE but always have a rough time with Pitt for some reason. Not sure if the Jets fixed their defensive problems (letting Rothlisberger roll out and complete a crucial pass killed them in the Playoffs) but signing Cromartie once again at least keeps the status quo.
Sanchez liked the big target of Edwards so hopefully Plaxico is an even bigger target. I expect good things from the O (which played like crap alot last year) with the additional 4 games Holmes will give us and Sanchez's improving maturity with the offense. We need a big year by Shonn Greene and help from McKnight. LT will do his thing but you can't depend on him all season long.
What the Jets really need to win a Super Bowl is home team advantage. They need to take control of the AFC East and not be on the road against NE or Pitt come January. Then they have a solid shot.

If anyone's lucky/rich/crazy enough to travel to Indy for the Super Bowl, let me know and we'll grab dinner. (I live here. Unless I win tickets, I'm not going.)

Biggest improvement in the Jets:
Another year of maturity for Mark Sanchez. No quarterback in NFL history has more career road playoff victories - and he did it in his first two seasons.

Year three will be fun.
Sanchez takes quite a beating on the blogs on how he is over-rated etc. But the guy has done the job so far (with the 2 AFC championship games) where he didn't lose the games. Some of the biggest throws in the 2010 NFL season were thrown by him.
Guess he's one of those guys some people will never admire.

I'm watching the NY Jets during QB training practice out at Florham Park NJ on the NFL Network live today! No helmets or pads today. Easy Living!
Funny. I was watching the Jets press conference today and Rex told fans not to bother coming to walk-through practices even if they're open to the public. Said they're boring as hell. I used to enjoy the practices at Hofstra and went to a lot of 'em, but it's true about the padless ones!
Week One is going to be very interesting, the Eagles coming into St. Louis to play my team, the Rams. Eagles are now considered to be the most talented team in the league and on their way to the SB. The Rams have the least amount of talent in the league. On paper anyway, the Eagles should kill us, so this will be an immediate test for the Rams, which is actually a good thing.
Another bad day for the NY Giants......now they lose WR Steve Smith to the Eagles!!
Yeah-the Eagles are really, really looking good right now, but let's see what happens when the games start. Pre-season sucks, but it begins Thursday night!

The only thing that could/will stop the Eagles is Michael Vick. He is fantastic but can wear down during the season since he gets hit alot (due to his running). But they will win quite a few games.

Great line on Bob & Tom this morning from comedian Costaki Economopoulos, who does a short monologue on the NFL about once a week on the show and is apparently writing for a sports blog (Bleacher Report). Talking about the Eagles, he said:

The Eagles are so stacked, Benny Hill is chasing them.

Steelers CB Ike Taylor broke his thumb in their exhibition game against Washington. Hopefully, it won't hinder his ability to drop interceptions in the regular season...

It's looking like the victims of the lockout were the players (injuries from lack of training) & us fans. Although for what they're making, a case could have been made for each & everyone of the veterans to have hired a personal trainer & acted just like they were in mini camp.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A man wearing a shirt slamming the San Francisco 49ers was seriously wounded as gunfire erupted in the parking lot after the team's NFL preseason game, while another man sustained lesser injuries in an earlier shooting, police said.
The violence occurred after the 49ers' 17-3 victory Saturday night over the Oakland Raiders at Candlestick Park, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.
A 24-year-old man was treated at San Francisco General Hospital for life-threatening injuries, and a 20-year-old man was hospitalized with less serious wounds, Andraychack told The Associated Press.
Their names were not released.
The violence comes months after a San Francisco Giants fan was severely beaten by two men in Los Angeles Dodgers gear outside Dodger Stadium after the teams' season opener March 31. Two suspects have been charged in the case.
Police Sgt. Frank Harrell said that in Saturday's attack the 24-year-old man, who was wearing a T-shirt referring to the 49ers with an obscenity, was shot two to four times in the stomach, according to reports in the Oakland Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle. He drove his truck to a gate and stumbled to security, Harrell said.
The other man was shot before that in the parking lot and had superficial face injuries, Harrell said.
"We are treating it as separate shootings, but we believe they are related," Harrell told reporters outside the stadium.
Harrell said police took a man in a Raiders jersey off a party bus before it left the stadium and were calling him a suspect.
The suspect and the two victims had all attended the game, Harrell told the newspapers.
The 49ers issued a statement acknowledging the shootings and the investigation, but offering no further details.
In violence during the game, the Oakland Tribune reported that a 26-year-old San Rafael man was assaulted and knocked unconscious in a men's restroom. Police said he was hospitalized and a suspect was arrested. There was no immediate indication that it was connected to the postgame shootings.
In the Giants fan attack in March, the two men accused in the beating, Louie Sanchez, 28, and Marvin Norwood, 30, have pleaded not guilty.
Bryan Stow, a Santa Cruz paramedic, suffered severe brain injuries and remains hospitalized.
Stow's doctor said this month that he has made "significant improvement" despite a series of ups and downs since his near-fatal attack. He said Stow is awake, breathing on his own, can move slightly and has been able to interact with his family.
The attack drew widespread attention and focusing the spotlight on security at Dodger Stadium, and the intense rivalry among Dodgers and Giants fans.
