FYI, It APPEARS that Amazon has changed their funds holding policy for sellers that they only hold the first 2 weeks & then switch to daily.

I am really furious with ebay right now, so am seriously thinking of switching. I need to s/w Amazon. I see 4 negatives:
1. They charge slightly more than ebay
2. it APPEARS that sellers can't select certain countries to not ship too.
3. Moving 4k titles is going to be really time consuming
4. It APPEARS that they will not allow you to list BMG Club cd's & titles with out upc's.
5. Pay Pal does offer superior protection to sellers, though I believe they're slowly removing it.

#2 & #4 concerns me more than the other 3.

Despite the above, I am so PISSED at ebay, I am going to seriously consider switching.

I can't speak for sellers, but I am much more comfortable buying CD's from Amazon than from Ebay. The one advantage to Ebay is that with certain listings I can view a photo of the actual disc/jewelbox for sale.

I see many third-party listings that indicate they are record club editions on Amazon.

I'll have to ask them about that. Their faq states every music item MUST have a upc.

Prefer Amazon to eBay these days.

You do have to be a registered ebay user. Will try to summarize later.

I mostly use Amazon, but occasionally try and luck out with an E-nay auction for out of print items..

I just won a new/sealed OOP CD (don't want to say what just now) from a 100% seller with a legit item description for $9.99. The cheapest Amazon 3rd party seller prices for the same item is currently $56.92 new and $24.96 used.

It doesn't hurt to watch Ebay every so often.

For in-print CDs.....always Amazon.

At this point, eBay is for when I want a movie poster or if I can't find something at a price I like on Amazon. Which is rare.

I mentioned to Geff several years ago that Amazon.com was the way to go and I have made a lot of money there. Ebay I haven't used in years to sell (my wife still does but always complains) but occasionally buy stuff there.
And, at Amazon you set your price and the items remain on there for a long time.
I also buy on there very often from second parties and have never really had a problem although it can happen of course.

I know Half.com doesn't allow it...I had two discs kicked off sale because I put that it was a club disc in the description.

I almost feel guilty NOT mentioning that, but I'd be willing to be a dick and say nothing. My luck, though, I'd get the one guy that has a problem with it (though I never have a problem with it myself).

I feel the same as you Geff, I tried to sell CDs & DVDs on E-Bay, the fees and stupid rules make it almost impossible to make any money on E-Bay.

I was stunned to discover how many people HATE club editions & cutouts. Neither bothers me at all, & until I stated selling on he internet, I'd never experienced this HATRED. That despite several years of B&M music retailing pre internet.

What's the difference between a club edition and a regular edition?

I've read/heard that sometimes the clubs would do their own versions of the cd's using the original masters that would be a different remaster than the versions available in stores.

None at all. Most are made at the same plants as the store bought CDs.

The clubs said they were the same masters. They were likely different press runs. At one time I did a listening test of 2 titles, Buffalo Springfield Retrospect & the first 2 cd Doors best of. I thought I heard a difference (in one case I preferred the club, in the other the store bought), but I am not prepared to say for certain that I wasn't imagining the differences.
