JohnG wrote: Though its not a very good album, I do love the song Shinin' On from 1974. Bought that one on vinyl and it came with 3D glasses. One of their biggest hits (the remake of The Loco-Motion) is on there too. Also the song "To Get Back In" is pretty good. Todd Rundgren produced it and it sounds like it. Anybody else get this one that year? I did, actually all of them when they were first released. As much as they're not one of my favorites, I'm going to Chicago next weekend for family stuff. The night before I leave, they're playing a festival 30 miles away. I'm considering going.

IMHO "High On A Horse" is thee stoner anthem of the '70's and one badass tune. My Uncle was a Grand Funk fanatic and left all his LP's in my Gandmother's basement when he moved out. I took possession of the collection and those LP's corrupted me at the tender age of 10. Besides the GFR LP's, he had all the essentials; Led Zep, Who , Sabbath, Hendrix, Cactus, etc. To make it up to him for snatching his records, I took him and my cousin to see the Bosnia benefit at The Beacon Theater back in 1997. It was a trip.

Mark Farner will be making an appearance here on LI in the Fall. That may require a trip to the show.

I once knew a Grand Funk fan who was so obsessive he even bought all of Farner's religious stuff. He was grateful to me because, back in the pre-Ebay era, I told him where I had seen a copy of a Farner solo album that had a cover in which, IIRC, he was riding a white horse. I'm sure somebody on here knows exactly which album I'm talking about.

So is this the same album release as the one that is being listed on the Iconoclassic website....they claim they are releasing the remastered edition of this one....they have done a great job with some of the Guess Who, Isley Brothers, Robin Trower,Earth Wind And Fire catalog among many others....they do excellent re-releases and this one should be no exception.

It was supposed to finally be released today, but as of this moment Amazon's listing for the Mark, Don & Mel remaster has gone dead. So has this been cancelled by Iconoclassic, or delayed again?

According to a posting on another forum, from someone at Iconoclassic, it's supposed to come out later this year...

What is the big deal anyhow? It is a greatest hits collection. With the CD's of "On Time", "Grand Funk"(the red album), "Closer to Home" and "Grand Funk Live", and a CD burner, you could create the same collection yourself. And the 4 CD's that I just described are available in remastered versions. Considering the absence of any vault material, why should Iconoclassic encounter any difficulty in bringing this (hardly essential) product to the marketplace. Given that fans could easily create the same collection themselves, Iconoclassic doesn't have the luxury of stalling the fans off for very long.

I'm with you on that, Phil IMO, the only GFR I need is the 2 early 70's live albums & Closer To Home.

As it turns out, you'll need the first 5 studio albums + "Grand Funk Live" to compile "Don,Mark & Mel".
"Are You Ready?", "Mean Mistreater" & "T.N.U.C." are the live versions. Wikipedia has a page about this compilation, and you'll find a JPEG image of the album cover on that page.

I agree with you about the track list itself of the M,D&M collection, but not with the mastering. Sure, there are very cheap remasters with bonus tracks and spiffy artwork out there to be had very cheaply, but they are brickwalled to death. Very hard on the ears at loud volume on any decent system, and absolute torture on headphones. The I-Pod crowd and folks who listen mostly in thier cars probably don't mind this, as that's the crowd all this modern-day mastering is targeting. Hell, who has a "stereo system" anymore, anyways??!! I think some people, myself included, are hoping that Vic Ansini, who masters a lot of Iconoclassic's cd reissues, can at least make the tracks on this compilation a bit more pleasing to the ear with better dynamics. Getting ahold of decent sources and not the standard digital masters Capitol is using for GF since the remasters could be what's holding up the cd reissue, but that's just speculation on my part.
