The only McCartney album thats coherent to me is Band On The Run. The rest have some good singles here and there but I never feel the need to sit and listen to them through.

One reason I love his Wings Greatest Hits (1978).

I kind of think of his Fireman material as a continuation of the experimentation on McCartney II.

john,

my feelings exactly.

i'll never understand the paul mccartney adoration society. in their eyes he does no wrong and every album is better than sgt pepper.

if you really sit back and examine the mccartney solo albums (wings included) every album has 2 -4 decent songs (usually 2 singles and 1 or 2 others) and the rest of the album is putrid.

and his last 3, i know sophomores who can write more intelligent lyrics.

I don't like any of Paul's albums more than "Sgt. Pepper", but to me, "McCartney", "Ram", "Wild Life" , "Band on the Run", "Speed of Sound", "Wings Over America", "Back to the Egg" and "London Town" are ALL perfect from start-to-finish. I even love all the non-Paul tracks on the Wings stuff. I could never entirely get into "Red Rose Speedway" for whatever reason, and all albums post "London Town" are hit-or-miss for me. But those original 8 or 9 - WOW.

Except for Wild Life, I agree with all of this. I'd also add Tug Of War, Flaming Pie and Chaos And Creation In The Backyard to the list. :ohyes:

I agree with almost all of this, except Ram and Wild Life. But I also love Tug Of War. And I'm not much of a Beatles fan, so I'm certainly no Paul worshipper, but I love, love, love Wings and a good amount of Paul solo, though he has also made some dreadful albums of which McCartney certainly qualifies though it does have a certain low-budget charm. Post Wings, Tug Of War, Pipes Of Peace, Flowers In The Dirt (my fave of these and one of my fave Paul albums period), Flaming Pie, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard and Memory Almost Full are all good to me.

The MOJO magazine with Paul on the cover is reporting that RAM remaster will include the album in full mono. This is by way of Beatlefan on Facebook.

What a pity that the new remaster of Run Devil Run DOES NOT include the iTunes bonus track "Fabulous". Nor does the remaster of Driving Rain include the David Kahne remix of "From a Lover to a Friend".I thought these were going to be definitive.

Those aren't remasters, just simple reissues changing the label.

Yeah, you'll have to wait another 40 years until the next go 'round of reissues for those...

After listening to the 3 CD edition of McCartney II I 100% agree. There are many tracks (in particular the bonus tracks) that are beyond bad, really horrible music from a singer I really admire. The bonus CDs are filler. Massive waste of money.... :(

Hey, I saw the picture of "Wings Greatest" here. I had that on vinyl as a kid - was (and still is) my favorite McCartney collection - mostly because it stops before things got really bad ("Say Say Say," etc).

Is this available on CD anywhere? Haven't been able to find it. Still got the vinyl though.

Paul McCartney is an astoundingly wonderful and satisfying songwriter, a great vocal stylist and he's a sickeningly accomplished instrumentalist. He's so talented that he makes it all look easy. No one of this generation begins to hold a candle to his musical abilities. The writing on "Chaos and Creation" stands strong next to anything he's ever done--arguably his best solo effort.

Just found this on MusicTap:

Quote:
Hear Music has planned the reissue of Ram in their Archive Collection series that refreshes the respected catalog of Paul McCartney. The planned re-release is scheduled for May 22 and will include several forms of the classic 1971 album. On that date, you can expect a standard CD issue as well as a 2CD Special Edition, and a 2LP vinyl reissue. Mark that calendar for this remastered classic by Paul and Linda McCartney..
