This is definitely not the original track listing for this greatest hits album, which I remember so well, because it was the first album I heard ELP on as a kid. The track listing seems to be expanded quite a bit-I can't remember if everything from the original is on there. I do remember this had the single edit of "Fanfare For The Common Man"-or did it? I forget that too!
This is obviously for fans who would get this comp for the memories and artwork like the Stones Made In The Shade and Sucking In The 70s releases.

Tracks 10-17 were not on the vinyl. I am just one of those suckers that will buy this too.

Join the club, my friend! :ohyes:

What's one more ELP comp on the shelf?

DanO:
Glad to help. If you can, can you confirm if this has new mastering and any liner notes when it comes in? The price is sure cheap and I like the track selection, and for the memories (especially the album cover), this sucker might join in too!

P.S.
Was I wrong about the "Fanfare" edit? And, has that appeared on a comp? That was the version that hit #2 on the UK singles charts in 1977.

Yes, the original vinyl has the single edit of "Fanfare". That version is also available on this comp:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000033P8/?tag=imwan-20

May be on others as well, not sure.

I have the previous CD version. Got to say I hate that edit of Fanfare.....that is one song that needs to be heard in its entirety.

I agree totally but I don't have the edit and I think it works pretty well and it was a shocking smash hit, especially when ELP were being destroyed by critics in 1977 who thought Punk would destroy Prog. They were wrong.

And then came Love Beach.

I still have the original vinyl with the ghastly ad to purchase some disturbingly short Love Beach shorts!
Some truly brutal songs on there but my favorite ELP song, a classical adaptation of a piece by Spanish composer Jose Rodrigo "Canario" is on there an absolute masterpiece. A few other good songs but some suck so bad-"Taste Of My Love" a gross, and musically bad song about groupie sex? Are you fucking kidding?

My original CD of this title is one of those "target" pressings that many collectors find appealing, so I'll be hanging on to it. Same for my first pressing of Pictures at an Exhibition.

Hmm. Nothing in your post explicitly states that you won't be getting this new one ....

Personally I'm passing on it as I don't need another ELP comp. Just buy the albums I say. They've been remastered enough already! :)

Ah, but what about a remaster of an album that was a comp such as this?

Some comps do hold sentimental value, true.

I want more ELP in surround. That I'd pay for.
