That's what I meant by half-assed. You have crystallized my complex thoughts exactly.

A few things struck me about his letter. One, that all "ongoing titles" will be available in digital form the same day as print. Also, he says that there will be 52 #1s in September. An examination of DC's books shows that there are currently only 30 ongoing DCU titles. I'd wager that only about half of these 52 new titles will be monthlies, perhaps even less. The rest will be limited series which will not be available in digital format. They're trying to have it both ways; digital subscriptions, yet also a large number of titles that you can only get in comics shops.

I don't believe this will work long-term. Digital subscribers will demand more content for their money, and once all of their comics become available digitally, the comics shop will die.

I think you nailed it with the "ongoing." But I think it's a good idea to put some stuff in the comics shops only. Some things that will make that channel viable.

I will pay no more than $1.49 for a digital comic. $.99 if it is Aquaman. $.49 if it is Booster Gold. $.01 if it is Lab Rats.

Oh, it will help the comics shops survive for a little while longer, but it's just putting a ventilator on the terminally-ill patient. It's only a matter of time. IMO, any comics shop owner who can't retire in ten years or less needs to find some other source of income.

Seriously, anything over $1.49 for a digital comic will be pushing it.

I'll give you $15, you give me a year's worth of digital comics and a voucher to get 40% off the physical TPB.

The current price point on Comixology seems to be $1.99. I'd be surprised to see it go lower than that. I'm okay with two bucks for a comic, digital or otherwise. More than that, especially for digital, is too much.

They will be $3.99 each, and will stop working after five readings.

We are all missing the most important question:

WHAT'S GRANT MORRISON'S ROLE IN THIS?

I don't think that's fair. I've read Final Crisis seven times already and I still can't figure out what's going on.

Basically, if you don't care for Jim Lee's style, then you're stuck.

They need more jackets. And maybe leg pouches.

Quote:
Included in the 52 series will be:

* A new title starring Superman written by Grant Morrison.

* Birds of Prey #1 - This new ongoing series will not feature the work of longtime "BoP" writer Gail Simone. In fact, many tried and true approaches to books will be getting a second look at DC in September.

* Teen Titans #1 - The new start for the teen team will be written by "Red Robin" scribe Fabian Nicieza.

* Justice Society of America #1 - Only one of a number of current titles that will welcome a creative team shift, the future of the original superhero team will apparently not involve current writer Marc Guggenheim.

* Wonder Woman #1 - Don't expect the recent changes from writer J. Michael Straczynski to stick when the Amazing Amazon sees another new #1 hit.

* Green Lantern #1 - Even with a new #1, Green Lantern remains in Johns' hands, and readers can expect the effects of major crossovers like "Blackest Night" to stay in place moving forward.

* Hawkman #1 - While fans have known a "Hawkman" series by James Robinson has been in the works since the writer mentioned it on a panel at New York Comic Con, Johnston has been reporting the rumor that the book will be drawn by "Batman & Robin" and "Outsiders" artist Philip Tan.

* Aquaman #1 - No surprises here. The already announced series featuring the sea king by Johns and Ivan Reis will be part of the relaunch wave.

I usually like Jim Lee, but that's one of the weakest drawings I've seen from him in awhile.

Okay, I'm out. I wouldn't pay $.05 a month to read anything by Nicieza after what he did to X-Men.

So DC decided to do the one thing that could contain my seething anger if they undo the Super-Marriage?

Well, played, DC. Well played.

X-Men is a talent killer (outside of a couple of exceptions). I loved his New Warriors, and he's been doing a great job on Red Robin, so I'll give it a look.
