Lenny's career arc is a love or loathe scenario, so open the floodgates of opinions. (lol) Linda, sorry if this has been reported already.

Lenny Kravitz announced yesterday via Twitter that he plans on dropping his ninth studio album, “Black and White America” Spring 2011. This offering promises to be an amalgamation of FUNK presented in that signature LK flavor: guitar licks and a driving back beat. The new project will be a 21-track double album assembled from pre- Baptism (his seventh studio album released in 2004) sessions and new material.

Hmmm...I was curious until you said, "The new project will be a 21-track double album assembled from pre- Baptism (his seventh studio album released in 2004) sessions and new material." Now it sounds like he's just dumping some potentially sub-standard material to buy time until the next release of new material.

Twenty-one tracks is a lot of Lenny. Maybe TOO much Lenny.

For Lenny Kravitz fans who have eagerly awaited post-It Is Time for a Love Revolution tracks, the wait is over.

Kravitz has announced that his ninth studio album, Black and White America, will drop August 30. The funk-flavored album is Kravitz’s first on Atlantic Records/Roadrunner Records, and the disc’s first single, “Stand,” will hit radio June 6. Kravitz produced, wrote and arranged the 16 songs on the release.

Kravitz has also confirmed a series of concerts in conjunction with the release of Black and White America, including performances on the Toyota Concert Series on NBC’s Today Show on September 2, The Late Show with David Letterman on August 30 and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on September 1. That's not to mention a pending world tour later this year and dates with U2 beginning on June 4, playing stadiums on the West Coast.

As for non-musical plans, Kravitz will also star as Cinna, the stylist and friend to heroine Katniss Everdeen, in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, The Hunger Games, which will hit theaters March 23, 2012.

On his new album, Black and White America, Lenny Kravitz has incorporated more hip-hop into his music than ever before. Guests include Jay-Z and Drake and the singer-guitarist wrote a song with R&B/rap producer Swizz Beatz.

“It’s all music, you know?” he told Billboard.com. “I only go where the music takes me, so if I hear it in the track, I’ll do it. I won’t do something for the sake of, ‘Well, this is hip now.’

“When I wrote ‘Boongie Drop’ I heard a rap in the middle, and I immediately heard Jay’s voice and we had collaborated twice before, so I called him and when I went to New York I put him on the track. And then I got on the phone with Drake for [“Sunflower”] before he had even heard the track and he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it. I’m a fan and I love your work and I would love to be on it.’ So that was cool.”

Kravitz said the new album, due out August 30, includes all sorts of genres, including rock, reggae and R&B.

“I’ve tried to make a record that sort of has one sound throughout, and I just can’t do it. When I go left, I want to go right; When I go up, I want to go down,” he said. “I have so many musical styles inside of me. Growing up, I listened to every kind of music and it’s in me and it’s just the way I am, so the albums always come out like that, all over the place.”
