From SurroundBlog.com

"It might only seem like yesterday that another raft of ELP reissues appeared but the recent sale of the band's back catalog from Universal to Sony means this year will once again see the band's majestic past raked over. What will undoubtedly thrill any ELP fan wil be the news of impending Legacy editions of, initially, "Tarkus" and "Pictures at an Exhibition" which will come with new 5.1 remixes (rumours currently suggest at the hand of Steven Wilson), extensive sleevenotes and bonus materials ...!

Steve Wilson has said that he is working on a famous "prog rock" classic so this maybe the album(s) he alluded too.
Good news! :yay:

Maybe I'll bite but I doubt it. How many times can ELP fans buy these??? I think I'll stick with the Shout Factory releases but if these are done like the King Crismon it might be worth thinking about depending on content. And I'd hope the WHOLE catalogue gets the treatment not just the same 3 or 4 albums we've all bought and played to death.

yep, these releases are really only good news for surround fans. Stereo only people must have bought these five times by now (I know I have). :D

Well, if they do what Crimson did which was for both regular music fans and stereo freaks and all the bonus content is there, it could be worth it for everyone.
The Rush was so lacking in extras I didn't bite, but these could be special if Sony/Legacy want to get something out of the catalogue. We shall see.

Oh yeah, I'll beat you ranasakawa and JohnG to be first in line for the Steve Wilson mixes. :ohyes:

Just yesterday I was reading the Jethro Tull Aqualung cover Classic Prog in B&N and they had a full page advertisement announcement of the second wave of ELP reissues released in England with 180-Gram vinyl as well for all titles. What caught my attention was that Sony stated their will be some very exciting news coming later in 2011 about the ELP reissue pgm.

Man, it's got to be the Wilson mixes. His work within his own group and the King Crimson mixes (I have them all) are outstanding. This is simply a no-brainer. Now if they can only get "Welcome Back..." in 5.1 which was originally recorded in Quad. :yay:

I'm amazed that Steve Wilson has suddenly become to the go-to guy for surround mixes. Obviously his own Porcupine Tree has state-of-the-art 5.1 mixes but his work with King Crimson has been just as great.

We can look forward to Caravan in 5.1 later this year and then some other "classic prog rock" album in 5.1.
Will it be ELP or Jethro Tull or Yes? We don't know yet but whatever group it is, my check book is open and waiting. :D

I only hope Steven Wilson has figured out how to stay productive while remaining awake 24/7. Between all the 5.1 remixes (which have been consistently brilliant), P-Tree, Blackfield, solo, and his upcoming project with Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth, I don't know when he'll have time to sleep.

I'm waiting for definitive surround mixes for the entire catalogs of Yes and Pink Floyd, hopefully in box sets like the Genesis reissues.

yeah, we need much more Floyd in 5.1. We got a taste with Dark Side Of The Moon in SACD but the rest need to be done.

Since I never got an SACD player, the only surround sound discs I can enjoy are DVD-Audio, so I haven't heard any Floyd in surround (unless seeing Laser Floyd at the Hayden Planetarium in the early-80s counts).

I never bought an SACD player, but got one inadvertantly when I bought my Sony blu-ray player back in November. A few of my CDs are SACD hybrids, so I've finally gotten to hear the 5.1 mixes of Tommy and Dark Side Of The Moon.

Am I incorrect in my understanding that Blu-Ray players can't play DVD-Audios, or is it just the high-res audio portion (which I can't play anyway, since I've only got a standard DVD player)? I know you can watch regular DVDs on Blu-Ray, but I love my DVD-Audios and would want to make sure I can get the same experience as I do on my current DVD player.

Blu-ray players are DVD players so your DVDA's will also play on them. You can play DVDs/ CDs/ DVDAs and of course Blu-rays on a Blu-ray player. And players are down to $100 now.

About to start a major kitchen renovation, so holding on to as much disposable income as possible. Unless my 10-year-old DVD player dies, I'll have to hold off on Blu-Ray for a while. Luckily, I love my DVD player. The digital audio cable allows for great surround sound on a mediocre speaker system.

There are 3 Pink Floyd DVD-Rs available in the collectors network that contain the original Quadraphonic mixes of the following Pink Floyd albums.

Dark Side Of The Moon (Alan Parsons 1973 Quad mix)
Atom Heart Mother (Quad)
Wish You Were Here (Quad)

All are from original master tapes and sound very different from the stereo CDs we all know today.

There are also some amazing Santana, Jethro Tull titles in Quad available as well.

I have the Alan Parsons mix of Dark Side and I have the Wish You Were Here DTS Quad mix. Both are fantastic.

Are those DTS Quad mixes on DVDs or SACDs? Regardless, it looks like I'll have to seek out some SACDs whenever I get a Blu-Ray player.

Back to ELP, I wonder why they've chosen Tarkus and Pictures At An Exhibition as the first two surround sound releases, skipping over the self-titled debut. Do they not have access to the original masters? I think I'd be most excited about Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery, which will hopefully be on the way later this year.

Brain Salad Surgery is already on DVD-A but seems to be out of print.
There was also a deluxe edition of this CD plus Pictures At An Exhibition which I also have.

I have a DTS CD of ELP's Trilogy which is essentially a Dolby ProLogic II matrix. I'd welcome a real official 5.1 release of this great album.

I have the DVDA of ELPs Brain Salad Surgery and its fantastic. One of my earliest surround discs.

Apparently, it appears that the artist to receive the surround treatment will be Jethro Tull.

Is that the "Steven Wilson surround treatment" or the "anyone else surround treatment"? Actually, I know he's not the only one who does good surround mixes, but I'm not aware of any other producers/engineers who have been as consistently great. As long as they don't use whoever has worked on the Rush live DVDs. They're the only ones I actually choose the stereo track, as the surround mixes are almost unlistenable.
