The Derek & The Dominos box has been postponed at least a month. The postponement, Amazon's ever-increasing price, and Eric Clapton's unwillingness to participate in the overdub sessions (for unfinished tracks intended for the group's second album) has caused me to decide against buying this. I've got the previous Derek & The Dominos box and a bootleg of all the tracks for the unfinished 2nd album. Some of the 2nd album tracks not included in the upcoming box set require Eric Clapton lead vocal overdubs to make them releasable.
I had been wavering between buying and not buying. Universal Music helped make my decision.

Where was this postponed or did I miss it?

There was a one month postponement, until late April, albeit only in North America.

These are the last people that should be short-changed with inferior packaging and incomplete sets.

I've complained here repeatedly about today's all too frequent use of crap packaging that all too often scratches brand new discs, & ALWAYS will scratch a disc after several uses. Apparently both the record co's & the average consumer don't give a fuck.

The delay in North America is to address the issues with the Super Deluxe edition, so don't lose hope yet, guys.

Move everything into jewel cases. It takes up more space, but the discs are protected from harm. There's no reason to put up with inferior cardboard packaging beyond the moment that you take off the shrinkwrap.

I use Japanese rice paper inner sleeves after I open the packaging; my points are:

1. I shouldn't have to spend the extra money, they should come already packaged in the inner sleeves or in trays

2. In my experience at least 25% of trayless cd's come out scratched the first time they're removed from the packaging.

I agree that we shouldn't have to spend extra money, but there's little chance that the packaging will improve or that the major labels will listen to their customers, so we need to protect our collections ourselves.

(I still wish that CDs had been designed with protective plastic shells the way MDs were.)

The Best Buy insert in the Sunday paper shows this on sale Tuesday. It is described as the two disc, as we already know, but next to the picture it says something about "Extra Disc". Are they just being redundant there? Or is this really a three disc set -- a Best Buy exclusive of some sort?

the best buy web site does not state anything about a " extra disc" (3rd) and the track break down is the same as all the other 2cd sets . but.. who knows?

We shall see tomorrow. At this point I'll get the new Radiohead and the 2CD Layla.

I am absolutely disgusted with the way this Layla super deluxe set has been packaged, what the UK Amazon customers have said about the missing items, the damaged CDs has really angered me.
Do these Record Companies want to sell this stuff or just piss us off so much that no-one will ever buy another CD again.

I respect anyone who did buy this and they deserve to be compensated and sent something that is packed properly, contains what is supposed to contain and be issued with a letter of apology by Universal.

I can remember when a Box Set was a big deal and the CDs were in decent cases and the box was 12" wide with decent packaging.

How low things have got now.

I believe the answer to the Best Buy question is this:

The single-disc remaster of LAYLA arrives from UMG today, March 29. The 2-CD edition and box set don't hit general retail until April 26. Best Buy has roughly a one-month exclusive window to sell the 2-CD edition starting today, hence the "exclusive bonus disc." The 2-CD LAYLA *is* exclusive to them for the next month or so, and it *does* have a "bonus disc" compared to the single-disc edition, available now everywhere.

Should there be a third disc involved, I'll report back, but all evidence points to the "exclusive bonus disc" being the same second disc that will be available to retailers everywhere on April 26.

At the Best Buy in Albany, NY, no third disc, it's just the 2 disc deluxe edition. Be aware that this rang up for $27.99, had to remind them of the $19.99 sale price. Also, the deluxe edition was not with the new releases rather in the bins. Best buy did have about 5 copies of the deluxe, 10 of the regular and several copies of the various Pearl Jam configuations.

Best Buy in North Haven, Ct has it - the clerk had no idea. only a few copies left

At $ 19.99 it was a bargin. I love the 4 cuts from the Johnny Cash show. This made my decision between this and the box easy.

1.) I'd never play the 2 lp set
2.) the 5th cd/dvd music disc - I'd never play.
3.) Never impressed with the live lp, the live cd or the couple of boot lp/cd of the live material.

Plus it was available NOW!

Exact same thing in Holyoke, MA -- discs were only in bins and rang up at non-sale price. There were 10 copies in stock of the deluxe version.

The Best Buy in downtown NYC had one copy of the regular CD and 2 copies of the deluxe edition. I was armed with this week's circular, but didn't need it as, it rang up @ $19.99.

Totally clueless Clerk in Best Buy in Manalapan NJ fought me hard that the price was correct at 27.99 for the 2 disc set. Told her to check the sunday ad and finally got the 19.99 price. They didnt even have them on the shelves yet at @11am, had to take one off the cart with the other new releases one of the teenagers hadnt gotten around to unloading yet.
I think the only thing more of a joke than how the record co. handled this release is how Best Buy manages to sell anything these days.

Totally clueless in Reston Va as well.

One copy of the regular, no copies of the Deluxe.

Clerk had to check twice on how to spell Derek - obviously never heard of Eric Clapton either....

So off to another store to find this.....and they wonder why I drink
