I just read Powers: Z (vol. 13) over the weekend and have to say Powers is back to being one of the coolest superhero comics out there.

Things got a little wonky with Cosmic (vol. 10) as Walker essentially became a Green Lantern style space cop with Superman's powers and Pilgrim went off the deep end... (Cosmic may be the worst of all the trades with that tedious stand-up comedy thing they were doing every chapter... I mean, every comedian had exactly the same "fuck the world" personality and none of them told any actual jokes.)

But man, Z really picked things back up by delving into Walker's past and giving us a peek into his future... this arc was just awesome and if you fell off of Powers but might want to get back into it, start right here with Z.

I read the first 8 and tired of the ever-increasing hopelessness of it all.

#7 Vol 2 came out last week. Turns out POWERS hasn’t been canceled. And it was good!

Powers a 'Go' at FX

Image

It’s been a long road through the development process but FX finally gave the green light to a new project called Powers, according to Deadline. The new show, based on a graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, follows two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, in a world where superpowers are part of everyday life. They work in a special division of Homicide that handles cases involving people with superpowers, who are simply referred to as ‘powers.’

Scripting duties were originally going to be handled by the creator of Journeyman, Kevin Falls, but Charles H. Eglee was brought on-board instead after the success he had with bringing a little graphic novel called The Walking Dead to the small screen. I’m sure the folks at AMC can testify to how talented the guy is. The pilot will be directed by Michael Dinner… because there just weren’t enough Michael’s involved with the project yet. Okay, maybe past success with shows like Sons of Anarchy and Law & Order had something to do with it too.

Bendis was so excited about his project heading to FX that he took to his Twitter account on Friday night to share the news, announcing, “Powers pilot was just greenlit by FX! it’s official! your window of reading Powers while it was still cool is running out ”

Honestly, I thought the message sort of sounded like a back-handed compliment. Does he believe Powers will no longer be cool once it gets the FX treatment?

The pilot is scheduled to start casting immediately for a spring shoot and BSC will keep you up-to-date with all the latest info on the super-powered show.
