Powers a 'Go' at FX
It’s been a long road through the development process but FX finally gave the green light to a new project called Powers, according to Deadline. The new show, based on a graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, follows two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, in a world where superpowers are part of everyday life. They work in a special division of Homicide that handles cases involving people with superpowers, who are simply referred to as ‘powers.’
Scripting duties were originally going to be handled by the creator of Journeyman, Kevin Falls, but Charles H. Eglee was brought on-board instead after the success he had with bringing a little graphic novel called The Walking Dead to the small screen. I’m sure the folks at AMC can testify to how talented the guy is. The pilot will be directed by Michael Dinner… because there just weren’t enough Michael’s involved with the project yet. Okay, maybe past success with shows like Sons of Anarchy and Law & Order had something to do with it too.
Bendis was so excited about his project heading to FX that he took to his Twitter account on Friday night to share the news, announcing, “Powers pilot was just greenlit by FX! it’s official! your window of reading Powers while it was still cool is running out ”
Honestly, I thought the message sort of sounded like a back-handed compliment. Does he believe Powers will no longer be cool once it gets the FX treatment?
The pilot is scheduled to start casting immediately for a spring shoot and BSC will keep you up-to-date with all the latest info on the super-powered show.
