These look cool, like they are one storyline. It also coincided with a logo change. Has anyone read these? What's the 411?

It was basically an exploration of Wonder Woman proving to herself that she still had the chops to be a superheroine after spending a couple of years as a depowered, Emma Peel-ish adventurer. She wouldn't rejoin the Justice League until she considered herself worthy, so she undertook a series of challenges similar to the Twelve Labors of Hercules.

Worse case scenario, you get some of those 100 Page Super Specs. Those you couldn't lose with.

I loved the stories at the time. These are still amongst my favorite WW covers, especially that Atom one.

I enjoyed it but it wasn't anything great. The best part was having several different DC artists do their version of Wonder Woman. One of those quest issues was illustrated by Curt Swan, IIRC.

Julie Schwartz took over as editor and came up with the 12 Labors gimmick. Each labor was monitored by a member of the JLA, which meant Schwartz could feature a guest star on the cover in an attempt to boost the sales. I've read a few of these issues, and they are pretty standard Schwartz-by-numbers stories, using his usual suspects (Bates, Maggin, Pasko, O'Neil) as writers. I prefer the run that came right before... Robert Kanigher and Ric Estrada's retro golden-age feminist stuff.

I couldn't stand Estrada's "glamor girl" look for Wonder Woman. And the stories were old issues re-illustrated, I'm pretty sure. But you like what you like.

Odd that Superman wasn't one of the featured guest-stars.

Could he be the focus of the first story?

I've only read the Atom one back in the day. I think it has pencils and inks by Dick Giordano.

I LOVED the two-part JLA story of Wonder Woman's return.

Image

Nekron has attacked Earth and the JLA are defenseless due to their exposure to a fear gas. Their fear makes Nekron stronger.
But Nekron did not expose Wonder Woman to the fear gas because he did not know that she was a member.

The first issue ended with this cliffhanger:

Image

The next issue opens with Wonder Woman taking charge in a major way:

Image

Image

But soon after the League realizes that Red Tornado should not be affected by Nekron's gas...

Image

Superman and Flash beam to Earth to find an injured Green Lantern whose ring made it to the satellite to warn the JLA:

Image

While Wonder Woman leads the rest of the League into battle with Nekron using her lasso!

But wait! Nekron's robot is kicking Superman's ass!

Image

The writer find a use for Aquaman!

Image

The League keeps passing Green Lantern's ring around as Flash heads to Paris to help Wonder Woman and the rest of the League against Nekron!

Image

Image

Poor Reddy. He gave his life for Midway City and Hawkman.

Image

And THAT, Ladies and Gents, is how to make a good Justice League story! How 'bout that Dick Dillin! What a Flash he drew!

Sold! I've add those two JLA issues (and that first WW) to my cart.

Well, odd that he was first. It could have been any other place in the order.

I didn't know they were old stories when I first read them, and I was impressed how they recaptured the feeling of the golden age. No mention is made on the letters page or anywhere else about them being recycled stories... I wonder if Infantino even knew that Kanigher was re-selling stories to the company that they'd already bought 25 years earlier? As to Estrada, I thought hia Wonder Woman looked great, and it's also a rare example of Colletta inks I really like.

Ah, I thought he might but it looked like a whole JLA issue.
