As I peruse the board I noticed how many different opinions we all have on things like versions of Superman etc. So it got me thinking. Which thematic elements do you think are absolutely necessary for your favorite heroes, no ifs ands or buts. Not talking artists or storylines but things that speak to the core of who the character is.
Some examples for me are:
Superman: An uncool Clark, who represents Jerry and Joe and all those who feel unappreciated for superficial reasons. The FIRST hero, the one whose very name started the superhero trend. Sent here for a reason. Love triangle with two people. Until Lois appreciates him as Clark, stripped of all the glamour stuff she loves about Superman, she'll never get what she wants and truly be happy. Sense of Wonder
Batman: Emotionally scarred, not crazy, but hurt and afraid to get close to people again. Could be you, a real person.
Spiderman (I prefer the teenage version but it can work if he's older too if he has the following): Everyman, a poor shlub who can't catch a break Guilt Difficult choices
Fantastic Four: A family Adventure Discovery
Anyone else?
