My afternoon trip to the Austin Books Sidekick Store has gotten me the last 14 issues of Starman(at $1 each) that I needed to complete the 80+ issue run, along with the two annuals, one secret origins and one special that came out. Now of course I'll need the two issues of Power of Shazam when I finally get to that storyline, but I figue I'll hit their main store and pick up those out of their back issue bins when it comes time. To think this all started with a trip to Half Price Books that gave me almost half the run in $3 clearance packs...

Great series. That and The Spectre salvaged the 90's for me.

Congrats! You are certainly in for a treat. Also, if you don't have the Shade mini, look for it as well. It adds some depth to the final part of the story. (And a couple of issues of DC Showcase w/ The Shade and Dr Fate. It's not needed to enjoy the story, but it does fill in some details.)

It's been a search, I picked up $12 worth of the books at a Half Price in the Dallas area last week. Also, I figure it's cheaper than buying the individual Omnibi that are out as well...

The completion of a run of comics is always a heartwarming thing to see. Congrats.

Is the Sidekick store worth a trip? We'll be in Austin for STAPLE and usually hit Austin Books.

I enjoyed all the Starman I've read, thanks for bringing it to mind. I've never read but one of that run you collected, at most, but the vintage antiques and fairly realistic character of Jack Knight made a memorable impression. I had fun collecting all of MACHINE MAN but complete stories and arcs of the type you saw in STARMAN were relatively rare until it set the precedent. There's always a chance you'll engage a long-plotted story with some new ideas as you get later in the run, but most change direction every couple of years---and we've all read things that seemed to be made up page by page, right?

Starman was happy to take the time to show you how to read, Robert. I'm glad, too.

Good timing.
I ordered volume 1 of the Starman omniboo as part of a post-Christmas Amazon order. It arrived on Friday.
I've never read the series, and to be honest, the reason I decided to give it a go was because I absolutely love the Golden Age Starman (I wish that costume was still being used).
I'll probably start it this week, and I'm really looking forward to it. Nice to see DC actually give the book a decent print and paper quality too. (Actually, that's a reason I held off on it for ages. I just don't trust DC's production values)

You know... There's a Starman waiting in the sky.
He'd like to come and meet us, but he thinks he'll blow our minds.

I really don't know what happens, other than the broad beats I know from JSA around the '99 reboot, which had Jack Knight in the beginning. I'm also interested in seeing what happens to Ted. I'm pretty sure he dies at some stage, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

If you already know he dies then it isn't much of a spoiler to say that it's one of the most heartwarming, epic and fulfilling deaths in a comic book ever.
Starman it's probably the best, richest superhero series ever.

Starman it's probably the best, richest superhero series ever. Excellent. That's exactly what I was hoping for. Though really, it could be awful and still be better than the Zero Hour deaths some of the other GA JSA'ers got.

Have you read James Robinson's Elseworlds miniseries Golden Age? It kind of sort of leads in to Starman.
